Location: RICHARDS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL / NEWPORT NH

Position Type: Full-Time / Hourly

Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:15 AM 2:45 PM (6 hours/day paid; includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch)

Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable, engaging, and organized Para Educator II to support students during tele-therapy (remote) Speech and Language sessions. In this role, you will serve as the on-site facilitator, bridging the gap between the virtual Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and the student. You will manage daily scheduling, transition students between their classrooms and the speech room, assist with physical and digital materials, and implement positive behavior support strategies to ensure productive sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tele-Therapy Facilitation: Set up technology, ensure stable connections, and assist students in engaging with the remote SLP during sessions.
  • Schedule Management: Maintain and follow the speech provider's weekly service schedule to ensure students arrive promptly for scheduled appointments.
  • Student Escort & Transitions: Safely transport students to and from their general or special education classrooms to the designated speech room.
  • Material & Technology Support: Prepare physical manipulatives, worksheets, and digital tools as directed by the remote SLP.
  • Behavior Management: Utilize positive reinforcement, prompt hierarchies, and individual behavior plans to keep students focused and regulated during sessions.
  • Data & Communication: Assist in tracking session attendance and communicate regularly with general education teachers, special educators, and the remote speech provider.
  • Other Support: Provide additional classroom or administrative support as designated by school administration during unscheduled speech times.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certification: Active Para Educator II Certification in New Hampshire (NH ED 504.04 compliant) required.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree or 48+ college credits preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with elementary or middle school children, particularly students with IEPs or speech-language needs, is highly desirable.
  • Tech Literacy: Comfortable using video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet), laptops, tablets, and basic educational software.
  • Clearances: Must successfully complete a state and federal criminal background check and fingerprinting.

  • Patience, warmth, and strong classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while taking direction from a remote provider.
