Job description

Within the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics, assist with Operating Budget development, submission and implementation. Oversee monthly accounting, workflow, reporting, variance analysis and reconciliation processes. Perform financial analysis and develop proforma for business and strategic initiatives.

This position is eligible for remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location. 

Financial Oversight, Reporting & Analysis

Incentive Plan Administration

     Create, validate, and disseminate incentive plan reports.

     Track RVUs across providers.

     Calculate and track penalties including Charge Lag, Documentation Deficiency, Bumped Clinic, Compliance, and DRG (CDI)  Queries.

Reporting & Financial Tracking

     Update the monthly faculty funding report.

     Respond to ad hoc report requests from providers and executive leadership.

     Assist the Finance Manager with annual budget preparation and salary posting.

     Complete required reconciliations and reporting activities in accordance with established procedures.

     Assess variance reports on revenue, expense, and other statistical measures. Prepare highly specialized reports as requested.

Financial Analysis and Planning

     Perform complex financial, operational, and statistical analyses utilizing financial, clinical, and decision support systems.

     Utilize decision support and data warehouse systems to develop pro formas and business analyses supporting operational and  strategic initiatives.

Program Financial Oversight & Reconciliation

     Maintain and update the Formula Orders Spreadsheet, including pricing and documentation accuracy. Serve as the primary contact  for PCD/PFS questions related to metabolic formula processes and Charity Care considerations.

     Manage new bill area setup, provider/APP bill area requests, and Allowed Services reviews.

AAAP Survey & Benchmark Administration

     Manage the department's AAAP survey and benchmarking process end-to-end - completing routine and ad-hoc AAAP surveys,  downloading and verifying the annual AAAP benchmark data, and analyzing results to inform faculty compensation and  departmental benchmarking decisions.

     Refresh the faculty salary setting file against benchmark data.

Data Analytics and Performance Reporting

     Develop, maintain, and analyze operational and financial dashboards and reports utilizing Power BI, Excel, and other reporting tools to support departmental leadership decision-making.

     Generate routine and ad hoc reports to support departmental leadership decision making.

     Track and report key performance indicators, including:

     Revenue and collections

     Work RVUs (wRVUs)

     Patient volumes

     Clinic utilization

     Patient satisfaction metrics

     Access and scheduling indicators

     Inpatient volumes

     Average daily census (ADC)

     Faculty and provider productivity

     Identify trends, risks, and opportunities through data analysis and benchmarking.

     Present findings and recommendations to departmental leadership and committee groups.

Leadership and Training

     Deliver best-practice training to others.

     Recommend and assist in developing training solutions to increase accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of financial transactions.

     Advise leadership within the department on appropriate financial controls, transactions, and accounting processes.

     May provide functional and/or administrative supervision (direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling) to assure  outcomes are achieved.

Strategic Planning

     Assist in coordination/preparation of analysis for strategic plans in support of DEO/administrator.

     Support development and preparation of the department business plan.

Educational Requirements

     Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Requirements

     Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, business analysis, healthcare analytics, or a related field.

     Experience preparing and analyzing financial, statistical, and operational reports.

     Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions, pivot tables, and data analysis.

     Experience developing reports and dashboards using Power BI or similar business intelligence tools.

     Working knowledge of SQL or similar query languages to extract and manipulate data.

     Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, variances, and opportunities.

     Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications

     Experience in academic medicine, healthcare finance, physician practice management, or hospital operations.

     Experience using Epic, decision support, data warehouse, and healthcare reporting systems.

     Experience developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards for executive leadership.

     Experience with budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
