Job description

THIS ROLE IS FOR U.S. ONLY (REMOTE)
Product Manager - Private Cloud Director

About Us:

Platform9: Private Clouds Made Easy

Platform9 is the leader in simplifying enterprise Private Clouds. Founded by a team of VMware cloud pioneers, we are dedicated to transforming IT operations. Our flagship product, Private Cloud Director, turns your existing hardware into a full-featured, future-ready private cloud. We innovate across what we build and how we deliver it, staying focused on a next-generation, open private cloud while holding ourselves to one standard: exceptional customer outcomes.

Enterprises are selecting Platform9 to replace legacy virtualization because it eliminates operational risk and complexity. Private Cloud Director is designed for the experienced infrastructure team, offering a familiar GUI experience for managing VMs and containers, seamless integration with your existing hardware and third-party storage, and critical enterprise features (HA/DR, scale, reliability) built-in. This enables IT teams to gain robust API control and a user experience they trust—rooted in customer obsession and an owner’s mindset. We share context quickly and candidly to keep decisions moving.

With over 30,000 nodes in production at some of the world’s largest enterprises, including Cloudera, EBSCO, Juniper Networks, and Rackspace, Platform9 is the proven path to achieving true vendor independence and operational consistency. We are an inclusive, globally distributed company backed by prominent investors, supported by a partner ecosystem of resellers, systems integrators, MSPs, and technology vendors committed to driving private cloud innovation and efficiency. Our values—innovation, customer obsession, ownership, radical candor, and excellence—guide how we build and support every deployment.

We are looking for a customer-focused leader to drive the vision & execution for Platform9’s Private Cloud Director - our flagship private cloud management product that offers enterprises the best alternative to VMware, and that enables customers to manage their virtualized and Kubernetes infrastructure across private or co-location hosted data centers and edge locations. You will be the product owner of the platform that is setting a new standard for private clouds. You will work closely with Platform9 customers, engineering and GTM teams to define our product roadmap and then ensure it’s being executed. This role reports into our VP of Product.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the engineering leadership team to define Platform9’s product strategy and roadmap for our virtualization and bare metal product.
  • Work closely with Platform9 customers and the broad community of open source users and contributors to build a deep understanding of their processes and pain points.
  • Transform your knowledge and expertise into innovative solutions that redefine how private cloud technology is consumed
  • Define metrics for customer engagement and product success and ensure measurement and execution. Present reports on metrics to management.
  • Act as a trusted advisor for select Platform9 customers, communicate roadmap, enable successful product deployment and consumption.
  • Work with the go-to-market team (sales, marketing) to enable sales by providing training on new features, collateral, battle cards, and other necessary content.
  • Being the voice of our customers internally to the Platform9 team, proactively communicate requirements and influence product roadmap.
  • Communicate best practices, reference architectures and other training material to customers
  • Collaborating with the engineering team to lead public documentation for the products and / or components you own.

Requirements:

  • BS/MS in Computer science with minimum 2 years of experience building enterprise software products
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, organization and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to lead through influence
  • Proactive, energetic, creative, loves working on hard problems
  • Highly organized, efficient at driving multiple projects simultaneously and getting them to completion on time
  • Basic domain knowledge of virtualization and technologies such as VMware, Linux/KVM
  • Background in any of the following is a plus: virtualization, containerization, private/public cloud
  • Enjoys discovering customer use cases, identifying gaps and resolving issues in the product.
  • Passion for cloud technologies
  • A background of product management, sales engineering or customers success is a plus
(Salary: $170K-$190K per year)
