Position Overview

Change Point Counseling Center is looking for a compassionate and skilled Substance Use Disorder Counselor to join our team in Houston, Texas. This full-time, remote position is dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey toward recovery from substance use disorders. As part of our dedicated healthcare team, you will play a pivotal role in empowering patients and their families to overcome addiction and achieve lasting recovery.

Work Environment

As a remote position, this counselor will primarily work from home, thus offering you the flexibility to manage your schedule while still maintaining dedicated office hours. Typical workdays are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. However, occasional evening shifts may arise based on the needs of our patients, allowing us to offer comprehensive support during challenging times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments of individuals seeking treatment for substance use disorders, identifying their specific needs and treatment goals.
  • Design and implement personalized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing.
  • Facilitate individual counseling sessions tailored to each patient's unique circumstances and hurdles in recovery.
  • Lead group therapy sessions, providing a safe space for patients to share experiences, learn from each other, and collectively work toward their recovery goals.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, addiction medicine specialists, and healthcare professionals to ensure holistic and integrated care.
  • Respond effectively to crisis situations, offering immediate interventions and support during substance-related emergencies.
  • Provide education to patients and their families regarding addiction, effective recovery strategies, and available community resources.
  • Maintain comprehensive patient records and documentation while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines to protect patient confidentiality.
  • Engage in regular team meetings, case consultations, and professional development opportunities, fostering a culture of collaborative care.
  • Stay informed on the most current research and best practices in substance use disorder treatment, ensuring that your therapeutic approaches remain effective and relevant.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Your primary focus will be on individuals struggling with substance use disorders, who may face numerous challenges including co-occurring mental health issues. You will have the opportunity to work closely with diverse clients, many of whom are looking for guidance, understanding, and a path to recovery. Your empathetic approach will be key in helping them navigate their personal journeys toward healing.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
  • At least one year of experience in a mental health or counseling role is required, particularly in the context of substance use disorders.
  • A valid state licensure such as LCSW, LPC, or LMFT is mandatory to practice in Texas.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based treatment practices for substance use disorders.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, married with a non-judgmental and empathetic disposition towards clients.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems is preferred, aiding in effective patient documentation and treatment tracking.
Preferred Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering either individual or group therapy within addiction treatment contexts is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of relapse prevention strategies and recovery frameworks will further strengthen your application.
  • Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated patient care.
Compensation and Benefits
