The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Nurse Educator is responsible for overseeing the clinical training and ongoing professional education of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPNs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and other clinical staff at Episcopal Church Home. In collaboration with the Nursing Education Coordinator and Manager of Information Technology, the LPN Nurse Educator is also responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and ongoing updates of the organizations Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Collaborate with nursing management to provide a clinical orientation program that meets the needs of the organization and supports the successful development of new nursing staff.
  • Partner with and Director of Nursing Education and Quality and the Information Technology Manager to implement and sustain the EHR system.
  • Train and support staff at all levels in the effective use of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Oversee in-service education for CNAs and RCA's in compliance with government regulations.
  • Provide classroom and clinical instruction about policies and procedures impacting resident care in collaboration with DON, ADON and Director of Nursing Education and Quality.
  • Conduct audits of the clinical staff competencies to ensure compliance, regulatory requirements, and quality care expectations.
  • Develop, implement, and conduct relevant in-service training programs.
  • Develop and maintain professional networks with healthcare and community agencies.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to oversee the medication error management process, providing staff education and coaching to reduce errors and improve medication administration practices.
  • Utilize outside training programs and on-line resources to maximize development opportunities for staff.
  • Coordinate the clinical rotation of students from external programs.
  • In collaboration with the Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and the ADON review and revise nursing policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ECH quality assurance committee.
  • Identify and promptly report unsafe conditions to Security and Maintenance departments.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of emergency procedures and staff incident reporting requirements.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated experience in training adults at all skill levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EMR.
  • Ability to train nursing staff members in various electronic documentation tools.
  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors and the general public.

EDUCATION:
  • Associate degree. Current LPN licensure in New York State.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Three years of clinical experience with supervisory and gerontology experience preferred.
