Responsibilities
Job Summary: As an H-E-B Store Department Lead, you'll lead a well-stocked, well-maintained department, while providing superior customer service. You'll also perform supervisory responsibilities, such as scheduling work, and training / developing Partners.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Store Lead Operations / Training:
  • May serve as backup to Department Manager and typically works opposite shift to Manager
  • May help prepare department work schedules
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws
  • Assists with inventory control; loads, unloads, and moves product
  • Trains Partners; directs work; addresses complaints; resolves issues; builds / follows up on production plans and their execution
  • Assists in all technical areas, as needed
  • Performs Representative / Specialist duties frequently

Customer Service / Sales:
  • Provides / coaches on superior customer service
  • Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
  • Answers customer questions regarding products; assists them with selections
  • Uses suggestive selling techniques and advanced product knowledge and experience to meet customer needs and build department sales
  • Merchandises products effectively

Food Safety:
  • Slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
  • Complies with department / Store operating procedures
  • Cleans / sanitizes sales floor, display cases, prep areas, and equipment

Additional Department-Specific Responsibilities / Pre-requisites:
BAKERY:
  • Ensures / oversees effective production planning and execution of supporting processes
  • Assists in all technical areas as needed (e.g., baking, frying, and decorating)
  • Culls bakery products for poor quality, expiration dates
  • Writes on cakes with icing per personalized customer requests
  • Stores with more than one Bakery Lead
  • Serves as dedicated Lead for assigned Partners, processes, and responsibilities in either cake / tortilla production or scratch / baking / wrapping as applicable by Store

BEAUTY:
  • Applies advanced knowledge of current trends in beauty for hair care, skin care, and makeup

DELI:
  • May oversee a specific area of the business: Service Case, Production, Cheese Shop or Catering
  • Assists with inventory control, including planning portion of Fresh Production Planner (FPP) ; follows up on FPP inventory functions; ensures Perpetual Adjustment Walk (PAW) walks are complete
  • Assists with ordering and event order management (EOMs)
  • Assists with training on new systems, tools, processes, and product roll-outs; follows up with Partners as needed to reinforce or retrain
  • Stores with more than one Deli Lead
  • Serves as dedicated Lead for assigned Partners, processes, and responsibilities in either back of the house or front of the house Deli operations as applicable by Store

PREPARED FOODS:
  • Serves / packages products at customer's request
  • Educates customers on preparation / reheating instructions of prepared foods
  • Prepackages condiments (sauces, dressings) for prepared food items
  • Cuts, slices, dices, chops, food in preparation for chef

PRODUCE:
  • Lead (department)
  • Performs lead responsibilities for the department and may serve as backup to Produce Manager
  • Lead (in-store production)
  • Serves as dedicated lead over the in-store production work & Production Partners
  • Spends majority of time with processing team engaged in Daily Sequence of Tasks

TEXAS BACKYARD:
  • Strong knowledge of nursery field
  • Strong knowledge of plant and chemical recommendations
  • Ability to complete Texas Nursery & Landscape Association training (H-E-B internal training)
  • Keeps up with current nursery field-related trends
