Overview

The US Oncology Network has 1,400 affiliated physicians, 400 locations across the United States and 800,000 patients treated annually.

We have an immediate opening for a Full Time Chief Medical Physicist.

SCOPE: Manages medical physics and dosimetry services at multiple practice sites at a statewide level to ensure accomplishment of practice objectives. Implements radiation safety programs and initiatives and ensures staff training. Responsible for the design, technical evaluation, and precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans. May participate in clinical, research and educational duties. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. 


Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Provides radiation oncology physics services and coverage at all practice sites as needed, including HDR and LDR brachytherapy procedures.

-Manages the radiation oncology physics program, including the technical direction of physicists and medical dosimetrists, staff scheduling, review of billing for accuracy and procurement of supplies.

-Implements radiation safety training and personnel radiation monitoring programs 

-Develops radiation safety and monitoring policies, procedures and training manuals.

-Participates in routine radiation training of staff

-Oversees registration of all ionizing radiation equipment and radioactive material licenses for practices within the state.

-Ensures adherence to all regulatory requirements

-Ensures proper maintenance of radiation treatment equipment.

-Implements physics and radiation quality management programs and the review and approval of procedures followed by radiation therapy staff.

-Provides recommendations for the specification, selection, and acceptance of radiation-producing machines, accessories, and computerized treatment-planning system.

-Participates in chart rounds to ensure appropriate clinical care of patient as it relates to physics and radiation services.

-Oversees the technical direction of radiation oncology physics, dosimetry and brachytherapy staff within the state. 


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in medical physics from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Minimum seven years experience in radiation physics, management experience a plus, preferably in a radiation physics program with multiple sites and brachytherapy services.
  • Current certification in field by American Board of Radiology.
  • Must meet continuing education requirements.
  • Valid state license for radiation physics.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have the ability to utilize components of the treatment-planning computer including but not limited to the use of keyboards, digitizers, trackball and mouse controls. Additionally, must be able to align treatment field and monitor patient during radiation therapy treatment; have adequate hearing and speaking capabilities to effectively communicate with patients and staff; have adequate mobility to assist patients on and off treatment couch and document treatment.
