OR Surgical Technician - Full Time / Days

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality and safe healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917. Additionally, Aiken Regional provides comprehensive healthcare services such as behavioral health (Aurora Pavilion Behavioral Health ), emergency medical care (main hospital and ER at Sweetwater ), orthopedic surgeries, maternity, rehabilitation services(Hitchcock Rehabilitation Services ), imaging, and wound care.

OR Surgical Tech provides patient care by scrubbing surgical cases.  Assists with the providers supplies and equipment and performs a variety of non-nursing functions.

Duties:

  • Actively participates in Universal Protocol and 'Time-Out'
  • Adheres to principles of asepsis.
  • Maintains a sterile field.
  • Provides appropriate and properly functioning equipment and supplies.
  • Prioritizes room set-up.
  • Counts on all surgical procedures in accordance with policy.
  • Adheres to surgical dress code.
  • Ensures compliance with sterilization processes.
  • Demonstrates care and handling of instruments/equipment according to manufacturers recommendations and departmental policies.
  • Demonstrates care, handling, cleaning, and processing of endoscopes.
  • Performs surgical scrub in accordance of policy and recommended standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge endoscopic procedures, pacemakers implantation, ortho, urology, GYN, ophthalmology, ENT, plastic, Gen/Surg, and vascular procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in operating transport equipment (stretchers, beds, oxygen takes, etc.).
  • Adheres to laser safety measures.
  • Adheres to standard precautions.
  • Identifies, transfers and labels all solutions/medications on the surgical field, but does not administer medications
  • Follows, updates surgeon preference card.
  • Maintains certification and/or education as mandated by South Carolina law.
  • Completes all Hospital and department assigned education as assigned.
  • Prepares and cuts suture material.
  • Holds retractors as directed by Surgeon.
  • Sponging or suctioning operative site.

Position Requirements:

Education : Satisfactory completion of OR Technician course or on the job training for at least one year.                                       

Experience : One year hospital experience preferred.

Certification/License ORT certification number required as of January 2008; obtains 15 CEU’s annually. CPR certification & NRP certification
