JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: The Senior Scientist supports the Chief Science Officer in executing CoreFX Ingredients' applied research and innovation initiatives. This role is hands-on and lab-focused, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting experiments that advance CoreFX's proprietary CoreNhanced™ shielded bio-transport technologies and related ingredient platforms.
The Senior Scientist contributes directly to formulation development, process optimization, performance testing, and early-stage scale-up, while maintaining scientific rigor, reproducibility, and documentation standards. This role is ideal for a technically strong, curious scientist who thrives in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment and enjoys translating scientific concepts into practical ingredient solutions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Support the CSO in executing the scientific and technology roadmap for CoreNhanced™ and future proprietary bio-transport platforms.
• Design laboratory experiments under the direction of the CSO to support innovation and development programs across CoreNhanced™ and related technologies.
• Lead a team of junior scientists and technicians to develop and optimize formulations for nutrients, bioactives, and molecular extracts in food, beverage, and dietary supplement applications.
• Support research involving encapsulation and delivery technologies, including micro-/nano-encapsulation, powdered liposomes, coating systems, complexation, and controlled-release mechanisms.
• Assist in research related to microemulsions and functional powdered beverage systems.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data to evaluate performance, stability, bioavailability indicators, and functional outcomes.
• Maintain accurate and thorough lab notebooks, reports, and experimental documentation in alignment with internal standards.
• Prepare technical summaries, internal reports, and data packages to support decision-making by the CSO.
• Support generation of data for white papers, technical dossiers, patents, and regulatory documentation.
• Assist with pilot-scale trials, process transfer, and scale-up activities in collaboration with operations and manufacturing teams.
• Identify formulation or process risks early and propose data-driven solutions.
• Support validation testing related to shelf life, stability, and performance claims.
• Collaborate closely with innovation, science, operations, quality, and commercial teams to advance projects efficiently.
• Provide technical support for customer projects, including sample preparation, formulation troubleshooting, and data review.
• Participate in cross-functional project meetings and innovation reviews.
• Follow and promote best practices in laboratory safety, organization, and equipment maintenance.
• Support continuous improvement of lab workflows, methods, and experimental efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and regulatory considerations where applicable.
• Stay current on emerging ingredient technologies, delivery systems, and scientific literature.
• Contribute ideas to innovation brainstorming and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support peer-reviewed publications, conference posters, and internal knowledge-sharing efforts under guidance from leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• M.S. or Ph.D. in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nutritional Science, Materials Science, or related discipline.
• 2-6+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in ingredients, functional foods, dietary supplements, or nutraceutical R&D.
• Practical experience with formulation development, encapsulation technologies, emulsions, powders, or bioactive delivery systems preferred.
• Strong experimental design, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with analytical techniques relevant to ingredient performance and stability is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple experiments and priorities in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and internal reporting.
