Job Description Summary

Is responsible for routine and non-routine repair and maintenance of boiler & refrigeration equipment and systems.
Operates and maintains equipment and systems in compliance with established Company and PSM standards. Equipment and systems include but are not limited to plant environmental control systems, plant water systems including water conditioning systems, compressed air systems, boiler steam and condensate systems, dryer systems, raw storage environmental control systems, HVAC systems, refrigerated rooms, freezing and cold storage systems, glycol chiller systems, boiler & refrigeration heat exchangers, natural gas systems, fire protection systems and high-pressure systems.
Prior experience with boiler & refrigeration equipment and systems is a definite advantage.
Successfully performs assigned activities that optimizes and sustains equipment operation and reliability to maximize plant production and uptime with minimal Lead or Management assistance. Prior experience with electrical troubleshooting and welding is a definite advantage.
Must be able to work the scheduled days, shifts, times and overtime required for this position.
Is a recognized SME (Subject Matter Expert) on a minimum of 2 different pieces of equipment.
Will have successfully passed the advancement test for Technician Boiler & Refrigeration Operator.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude thefollowing,other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintains and promotes safe work practices at all times, assures that safe work practices are being followed in all work groups, and activelyparticipatesin safety programs.

  • Perform assigned duties and responsibilities in a safe and satisfactory manner.

  • Must understand andcomply withall known posted orgenerally acceptedinstructions, procedures, rules, practices,policiesor other items covered in the Employee Handbook.

  • Required to pass a pulmonary/fit test annually (due to the use ofSCBA).

  • Following established procedures such as SOPsperformsthe safe isolation, shut down, inspection, cleaning, adjustment, repair/overhaul or startup of equipment and systems within scope of responsibility.

  • Performs and documents line checks, corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance including the lubrication and inspection of equipment to sustain equipment reliability.Documentation may include but is not limited to SAP, Belt Tracking form, FM form, BDE card,etc...

  • Records data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels,andanalysis of flue gases.Recordstank levels, chemical and lubricant supplies. Records other readings in daily logs and sheets as assigned at the specified intervals to verify and assureoptimaloperating conditions.

  • Is knowledgeable enough about the boiler and refrigeration systems tooptimizesystemsto helpoptimizeoperating and troubleshooting procedures.

  • Competently evaluatesequipmentforperformance, performs adjustments, etc., as needed toassuresustainedoptimalequipment performance and the production of quality potato products.

  • Maintainsoptimalequipment operation by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, seals, gaskets, valves, recorders, gages, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components.Troubleshoots, repairs and welds equipment as needed to sustain reliable andoptimaloperations.

  • Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to back-up equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment.

  • Is proficient in performingand documenting thetroubleshooting ofissues such as mechanical,electricaland pneumatic toidentifydefects,identifythe reason for the failure,determineroot cause,and to take corrective action toeliminaterecurring failure.

  • Operates andmaintainswater conditioning systems. Performstests, andadds chemicals and/or makes operational adjustments asindicatedby the testing procedures to protect,optimizeand sustain healthy steam and condensate systems.

  • Performs most non-routine jobs assigned by Boiler & Refrigeration Maintenance Lead, Maintenance Team Leader, Team Leader Production, or Plant Managementandcanperform repairs withminimaldirect supervision.

  • Strongly encouraged to develop the knowledgeandskills necessary to advance from a1stClass Boiler & Refrigeration Operatorto a TechnicianBoiler & Refrigeration Operator.The three-part advancement test to the Technician level consists of 1)Weld test, 2)Writtentestand 3)Hands-on validation of some advanced troubleshooting skills.

  • If hired in or transferred in as 1stClass, must be qualified toremain1stClass within 9 months after date of hireortransfer as 1stClassby passing the 1stClass test.Passinggradefor all written examinations must be 75% or better.

  • Failure to passthistest will result in a minimum of30daysand a maximum of45 dayswaiting period before re-testing. Failure to passthesecond test will result in demotion toa2ndClass rating and pay scale.

  • One more opportunity to pass the 1stClass test will be given within theremainderof the18 monthsof your hire or transfer date as a 1stClass. Failure to passthis testwill result in termination or reassignment outside the maintenance department.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain 5Sstandards, (Sort, Set, Systematize, Shine and Sustain). Keep a neat, clean, orderlywork area.

  • Follows instruction given verbally, in work orders, equipment manuals, etc. Advises Team Leader and Planner of any inaccuracies found in work orders, manuals, schematics, etc., and documents in SAP where applicable.

  • Is proficient in the use ofSAP.Is fully capable ofutilizingSAP tolocateequipment and any data in SAP on equipment such as drawings, schematics, parts, etc., as well as if the part is a stocked item in our plant Stores, the quantity on hand and the bin location. Through the use of SAP,iscapable of identifying any other plant that would have the item on hand.

  • Providesaccuratedetailed information to Planner(s) of inaccuracies found in equipment BOM's or items needing added to equipment BOM's.

  • Is capable of assistingStores personnel, when needed, toidentifyorlocateneeded equipment or parts in the secured Stores areas.

  • Submits Notifications for deficiencies noted during the performance of tasks or through general observation that will improve and sustain reliability.

  • Competently examines parts toidentifydefects,identifyroot cause reason for the failure, and to takeappropriate correctiveactionto sustainoptimal,reliableand sustainable operation.

  • Complete assigned workin a timely manner. If held over to cover an absence, complete the assigned work of the absent team member. (Forexample, if covering 4 hours of an 8-hour shift, complete 4 hours of the absent team members assigned work.)Fully accounts for time worked (less breaks)utilizingthe CMMS system (SAP).

  • Performs and properly documents the removal, installation, disassembly, assembly and repair of plant components andequipmentasneeded to sustainoptimal,reliableand sustainable operation.

    • Is responsible forthe troubleshooting, replacement and re-wiring of electrical components beingreplaced.For example, troubleshooting of a motor back to the MCC bucket and verifying that wires are properly torqued, heaters/overloads and fuses are good and ifbadreplacing them (with the properly rated components), or changing rotation of a motor ifrequired.

    • Takes,comparesand documents the motor amp-draw to the FLA rating of the motor

    • Repair orassistin repairsin other areas of the plantas instructed by the Maintenance Lead, Maintenance Team Leader, Team Leader Production, or Plant Management.

    • Participates in and helps drive DMS (Daily Management System) and other miscellaneous programs as assigned.

    • Must be able to differentiate between stainless steel, mild steel and aluminum materials andpossessthe knowledge todeterminetheappropriate applicationsand correct fabrication and welding process for each.

    • Is able to proficiently cut and bond materials together utilizing various processes such as but not limited to welding, soldering, bolting, riveting, screwing, clip or caulking, to fabricate, repair or install materials and equipment to company specifications using verbal direction, prints, sketches, diagrams and blueprints.

    • Is proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and testing or specialty equipmentnecessary to execute the duties associated with thisjob.(Test or specialty equipment includes but is not limited to multimeters, meggers, infrared and laser alignment tools.)

    • Is proficient inutilizingestablished procedures, such as SOP's, in the coaching of new or lower-class employees in the safest and proper way tooperateand maintain equipment.

    • Has the knowledge, experience, desire and communication skills to share learnings with fellow employees, salaried team members and outside resources to improve collaboration to improve safety, working relationships, and equipment performance.Sharing ofthis knowledge may be in the form of one on one or potentially a 'classroom style' setting.

    • Qualified to operate Powered Lift Trucks, Scissor Lifts, Man Lifts, Snorkel Lifts and other equipment necessary to facilitate the execution of their various job functions including but not limited to the maintenance, removal, or placement of equipment, and/or the materials, supplies and tools associated with maintenance activities.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: HighSchool diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred;two-year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of fouryearseducation and related experience and/or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read andcomprehendinstructions, correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to writeaccurateinformation in English. Ability to effectively present or listen to information inoneononeand small group situations with all other employees of the organization in English.
