Job description

Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then youโ€™ve come to the right place!

E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service deliveryย associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.

Weโ€™re intentional, weโ€™re unapologetically curious and weโ€™re 100% committed to innovate space-based communications and deliver actionable intelligence that will expand global economies, protect space and our planet and enhance our overall quality of life.

The E-Space Manufacturing Solar Team builds the world's most advanced aerospace products.ย ย
ย
Theย PLC Programmer/Controls and Power Systems Engineerย isย responsible forย modifying, troubleshooting, and improving control systems on thin-film manufacturing equipment, with a strong focus on Siemens PLCโ€“based systems.ย
ย
This role supports both Originalย Equipmentย Manufacturerย built production machines and aย uniqueย developed roll-to-roll (R2R) machine, working closely with equipment manufacturers, process engineers, and production teams to improve reliability, safety, throughput, closed loop system feedbackย and functionality.ย
What you'll be doing:
  • Modify, debug, andย optimizeย PLC programs on existing production equipment,ย primarily Siemens-based systems, but not limited to Siemens.ย
  • Work directly with equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to implement fixes, upgrades, and functional improvements.ย
  • Support commissioning, re-commissioning, andย acceptanceย of modified machines.ย
  • Improve machine reliability, uptime, and process stability through control system enhancements.ย
  • Develop and improve PLC logic for aย uniqueย R2R machine,ย with no OEM,ย including new features and performance improvements.ย
  • Implement andย maintainย machine safety logic, interlocks, and alarms.ย
  • Troubleshoot electrical, sensor, actuator, and communication issuesย impactingย machine operation.ย
  • Collaborate with process and equipment engineers to translate process needs into control logic.ย
  • Support integration of motion control, web handling, heaters, pumps, vacuum systems, and power supplies.ย
  • Workย with HMI improvements for usability, diagnostics, and operator feedback.ย
  • Ensure that machine subsystems receive power within defined electrical and operational requirements (voltage, current, sequencing, protection).ย
  • Maintain PLC documentation, version control, and change records.ย
  • Support production during ramp-up and troubleshooting events.ย
What you will bring to this role:
  • BS or technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field.ย
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with PLCs in an industrial environment.ย
  • Strong hands-on experienceย modifyingย and troubleshooting existing PLC code (not only new development).ย
  • Experience working with OEM equipment and external machine vendors.ย
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Ethernet/IP).ย
  • Experience with motion control, drives, sensors, and industrial I/O.ย
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.ย
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and supporting live production equipment.ย
Extra points for the following:
  • Experience with roll-to-roll (R2R) or web-handling equipment.ย
  • Background in thin-film PV, semiconductor, display, or vacuum-based manufacturing.ย
  • Experience with Siemens TIA Portal, HMI, and safety PLCs.ย
  • Familiarity with vacuum systems, heaters, pumps, mass-flow controllers, or power supplies.ย
  • Experience improving legacy control systems or reverse-engineering OEM logic.ย
  • Understanding ofย machine safety standards (e.g., interlocks, E-stops, safety relays/PLCs).ย

This is a full time, exempt position, based out of our Arlington, TX office.ย
ย
We are redefining how satellites are designed, manufactured and usedโ€”so weโ€™re looking for candidates with passion, deep knowledge and direct experience on LEO satellite component development, design and in-orbit activities. If thatโ€™s your experience โ€“ then weโ€™ll be immediately wow-ed.
ย
E-Space is not currently able to provide employment sponsorship for candidates who do not hold work authorization for the location of this role.
