Plastic Express operates from 22 full-service facilities, more than 40 bulk terminals, and 52 railcar terminals offering more than 8,500 railcar spots across the country. We are located near 9 major ports in the U.S. and rely heavily on our rail infrastructure to handle imports /exports as well as regional distribution. At many of the Plastic Express sites, we also handle some non-plastic commodities, which include; paper rolls, steel, building materials and other dry bulk materials. Plastic Express owns and operates roughly 250 trucks, with approximately 250 trailers performing full bulk truck distribution business. Job Summary:
With reporting responsibilities to the Warehouse Manager, this position is directly responsible for supervision of up to 3 fulltime or part-time packaging employees in a safety sensitive and production environment.  To include; Packaging Operation, Maintaining Inventories and Performing Maintenance, Employee development and Training, Record keeping and Communication of issues with Management.  Must be able to listen to directions and lay out job assignments to the Packaging/ Warehouse staff.  Addition duties and responsibilities may be added or deleted at any time.
Essential Functions/Duties:
Warehouse Operation

  • Unloads goods and material received, enters appropriate information into system, labels and locates material.
  • Separates customer orders. Pulls and stages orders. Repacks material if required to meet customer specifications. As required, makes boxes, packs, labels and locates materials.
  • Ensures all products are properly labeled.
  • May perform functions/transactions in designated system to receive or ship material.
  • Participates in cycle counting. Enters and verifies information. Researches and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Reviews preventative maintenance check sheets for forklifts. Ensures good working order of machines.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and that inspection paperwork is done correctly and turned in daily (i.e.; forklift, transfer system and compressor inspections)  
  • Follows and complies with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and monthly safety meetings.
  • Must participate in operations training and development programs.
  • Must demonstrate positive and healthy attitude at all times while performing job functions.
Packaging Operation
  • Monitor and supervise the day-to-day operation of the shift packaging employees (Utility Position, and Packaging Area Fork Lift Operator).
  • Oversee the operation of the transfer system by proper training and supervision of the Utility Position.
  • Oversee the packaging forklift operator and provide proper training and supervision.
  • Directly responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the Packaging Equipment.
  • Directly Operates the Hamer or Sewn Open Mouth 25 KG bagging lines, Scales, Palletizing Robot, Pallet Dispenser, Printer, All Conveyor systems and Bag Kickers. 
  • Should not directly maintain the stretch wrap machine during production periods.  Should provide communication to the Packaging Forklift Operator or Utility Operator when a problem is observed with the wrapping equipment.
  • Help in maintaining all inventories related to the packaging operation through communication with management.
  • Report any related operational problems to the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure that all related production documentation is correct and turned-in in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all safety and production procedures are being followed.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and ensure that all employees keep excellent housekeeping practices in all work areas.
Maintenance
  • Responsible for the safe isolation of equipment prior to any and all machinery repair and maintenance.
  • Assure strict Lockout/ Tagout procedural adherence is followed by all site and contractor staff.
  • Perform routine and/or required maintenance on all related packaging equipment.

Shipping/Receiving
  • Directly responsible for all truckload to Container worksheets, packaging paperwork and daily inspection of shipping and receiving records.
  • Monitor each order’s cut-off or shipping dates to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Supervise loading of each truckload/container

Qualifications: 
Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous warehousing experience

Preferred Education and Experience 
  • Previous experience in supervisory role (preferably in warehousing)

Physical Demands  
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  These tasks include, but are not limited to:
  • Must be able to work overtime, long hours, weekends and holidays when needed.
  • Must be able to perform physical labor such as; lifting up to 55 lbs., moving up to 250 pounds, climbing ladders, operate control panels and working with hand tools.
  • Must be able use fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and/or hear.
  • Must possess adequate vision to include close visual confirmation of finely printed documents, distance vision to safely and correctly identify objects and or markings, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus on subjects or objects at any safe working distance.

Licenses/Certificates:  
  • Must be Forklift Certified and maintain proper credentials during employment period.

Skills:   
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team
  • Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact
  • Must be able to safely operate a forklift and must pass site forklift certification
  • Must have the ability to think independently and make decisions that are in the company’s best interest
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communications and organizational skills. Must be multi-task oriented with the ability to handle many activities simultaneously

Additional Job Details:
Supervisory Responsibility: 
  • Must provide positive leadership for all packaging staff.
  • Maintain the appropriate amount of staffing to accomplish the required production goals.

Work Environment: 
This position operates in a fast-paced warehouse setting, involving regular use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment, with some outdoor exposure during the workday. with some outdoor exposure during the workday. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, box cutters and tape dispensers.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 
This is a full-time position. Must be able to work overtime, long hours, nights, weekends and holidays when needed.
Travel: 
Little to no travel is expected for this position.
