Job description

Pipeline Integrity Engineer

Type: Direct Hire

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Salary: $120K–$135K DOE

About the Role

This role reviews and analyzes inline inspection (ILI) data for a gas transmission and distribution Integrity Management Program based in Los Angeles. We are partnered with a pipeline engineering services firm supporting the nation’s largest natural gas distribution utility to recruit a Pipeline Integrity Engineer for its assessment team.

The Pipeline Integrity Engineer reviews ILI vendor reports, data packages, feature lists, and dig sheets, evaluates reported anomalies, and prepares the technical documentation that supports anomaly response and remediation planning. The selected candidate will work as an embedded member of the engineering team at the assigned Los Angeles worksite, reporting to the Assessment Team Manager and coordinating directly with ILI vendors, corrosion and cathodic protection staff, operations, and GIS personnel.

This role suits an engineer who has already worked inside a gas pipeline Integrity Management Program and can evaluate metal loss, deformation, and crack-like features against 49 CFR Part 192. Recommendations are reviewed by a senior engineer when risk or program significance warrants.

Key Responsibilities

Inline Inspection Data Review

•     Review ILI vendor reports, data packages, feature lists, dig sheets, and supporting documentation for completeness, consistency, and conformance with project requirements.

•     Interpret results from pipeline inspection gauge (PIG) runs and evaluate reported anomalies, including metal loss, deformation, and crack-like features.

•     Compare current ILI results against prior inspections, pipeline records, operating history, and cathodic protection (CP) data to identify trends and recurring anomalies.

Integrity Assessment and Documentation

•     Perform quality-control checks, data reconciliation, trending, and engineering calculations using approved tools and procedures.

•     Support anomaly prioritization, remediation planning, and integrity assessment documentation in accordance with 49 CFR Part 192 and ASME B31.8S.

•     Prepare technical summaries, workpapers, and presentations for senior engineers and program leadership.

Program Coordination

•     Identify discrepancies, missing information, and data-quality concerns, and resolve them with ILI vendors and internal stakeholders.

•     Track assigned assessments, deliverables, and action items against schedule and documentation requirements.

•     Collaborate with integrity, corrosion and cathodic protection, operations, GIS, and data management personnel.

Qualifications

Required

•     Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.

•     Four or more years of pipeline integrity engineering experience, including hands-on gas utility inline inspection (ILI) data analysis.

•     Direct Assessment (DA) experience, including external or internal corrosion direct assessment.

•     Pressure testing experience on gas transmission or distribution assets.

•     Working proficiency with Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) cathodic protection curricula (CP1, CP2, CP3) and API 579.

•     Strong Excel and data-analysis skills, and the ability to learn client-specific integrity and data-management systems.

•     Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship, now or in the future.

•     Ability to work onsite in the Los Angeles area four days per week. Relocation required if not a commutable distance from Los Angeles.

Preferred

•     Familiarity with 49 CFR Part 192, PHMSA requirements, ASME B31.8S, and API 1163.

•     Experience supporting a gas Integrity Management Program, anomaly response, or regulatory documentation.

•     Coatings, corrosion control, or in-ditch verification experience.

•     Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or AMPP/NACE training.

Compensation & Employment

Employment Type: The selected candidate will be hired as a full-time employee directly with our client and placed on assignment at the Los Angeles worksite.

Openings: Multiple positions are available on this program.

Compensation: $120K–$135K annually, DOE.

Work Model: Onsite four days per week with one remote day at either the Chatsworth or Pico Rivera office, candidate’s choice. A fifth onsite day may be required.

Engagement Length: The initial program assignment runs approximately two years, with a strong likelihood of extension based on program funding and performance.

Travel: Limited local travel to field, operating, or project locations. Valid driver’s license required.

Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance; retirement plan; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; and professional development support.

Pre-Employment: Offer is contingent on a background check and drug screening.
