How much do full time pilot jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 22, 2026, the average yearly pay for full time pilot in Utah is $91,318.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $76,900.00 and $97,100.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a full time pilot?

Full time pilots are professional aviators employed by airlines, corporations, government agencies, or private entities to operate aircraft as their primary occupation. They are responsible for safely flying passengers or cargo, conducting pre-flight inspections, planning flight paths, and ensuring compliance with aviation regulations. Full time pilots typically work a set schedule and may fly domestically or internationally, depending on their employer. Their roles can include airline pilots, charter pilots, or corporate pilots, and they often have rigorous training and certification requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time pilot?

To thrive as a Full Time Pilot, you need extensive flight training, a commercial pilot license, and a thorough understanding of aviation regulations and navigation. Familiarity with advanced cockpit avionics, flight management systems, and simulator training is typically required. Strong situational awareness, communication, decision-making under pressure, and teamwork make someone stand out in this position. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and effective crew coordination in dynamic flight environments.

What are some common challenges full time pilots face in maintaining work-life balance?

Full-time pilots often face challenges in maintaining work-life balance due to irregular schedules, frequent time zone changes, and long periods away from home. These factors can make it difficult to attend family events or maintain regular routines. Airlines typically try to accommodate pilots’ preferences with bid systems for schedules, but flexibility is often required, especially for newer pilots. Over time, gaining seniority can lead to more predictable routes and improved balance.
