As of Jun 20, 2026, the average hourly pay for full time photo video editor in the United States is $31.60, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $21.39 and $39.66 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges Full Time Photo Video Editors face when working with tight deadlines?

Full Time Photo Video Editors often juggle multiple projects with overlapping deadlines, which can make time management a significant challenge. Quick turnaround times may lead to creative pressure, especially when clients request last-minute changes or additional edits. To succeed, editors must stay organized, communicate clearly with team members, and prioritize tasks effectively while maintaining high-quality results. Collaboration with photographers, videographers, and clients is essential to ensure the final product meets expectations within the required timeframe.

How much do photo editors make per photo?

Photo editors' earnings per photo vary widely based on experience, project complexity, and client rates. Typically, freelance photo editors charge anywhere from $5 to $50 or more per image, with rates often negotiated based on the scope and quality of work. Full-time photo editors usually earn an hourly or salary rate rather than per photo, but some may receive bonuses or project-based pay for specific tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Photo Video Editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Photo Video Editor, you need expertise in image and video editing, color correction, and storytelling, usually supported by a relevant degree or portfolio of work. Proficiency with software like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and After Effects is standard, and certifications in these platforms can be advantageous. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication help editors interpret client needs and collaborate with creative teams. These skills are crucial for producing visually compelling content that meets project objectives and maintains high production standards.

What is the difference between Full Time Photo Video Editor vs Part Time Photo Video Editor?

AspectFull Time Photo Video EditorPart Time Photo Video Editor
Work HoursTypically 35-40 hours per weekLess than 20 hours per week
Employment StatusFull-time employeePart-time employee or freelancer
CredentialsOften requires a portfolio, basic editing certificationsMay have similar credentials but less experience required
Work EnvironmentIn-house or agency settingRemote or freelance projects
Job ResponsibilitiesConsistent editing tasks, project managementFlexible, project-based editing

Full Time Photo Video Editors usually work regular hours in a stable environment, handling ongoing projects and responsibilities. Part Time Photo Video Editors work fewer hours, often remotely, focusing on specific projects. Both roles require similar skills, but full-time positions offer more stability and consistent workload.

What does a Full Time Photo Video Editor do?

A Full Time Photo Video Editor is responsible for editing and enhancing photos and videos to meet specific creative or client requirements. Their duties typically include color correction, cropping, retouching, adding effects, and assembling footage into a polished final product. They often collaborate with photographers, videographers, and clients to ensure the visual content aligns with the desired style and message. This role requires proficiency with editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro. Attention to detail, creativity, and the ability to work within deadlines are key skills for this position.

Is AI replacing video editors?

AI technology is increasingly used to assist video editors by automating tasks such as editing, color correction, and effects, but it does not fully replace the creative and decision-making skills of a professional video editor. Human editors are still essential for storytelling, nuanced editing, and quality control, especially in full-time roles that require technical proficiency with editing software and creative judgment.

What is the 321 rule of video editing?

The 321 rule in video editing suggests that the first 3 seconds of a video should capture attention, the next 2 minutes should deliver key content, and the final 1 minute should include a call to action or conclusion. For a full-time photo video editor, applying this rule helps create engaging and well-structured videos that retain viewers' interest and communicate messages effectively.

What is the 80 20 rule in video editing?

In video editing, the 80/20 rule suggests that roughly 80% of the final impact comes from 20% of the editing work, such as key cuts, color correction, or sound design. As a full-time photo and video editor, focusing on the most impactful edits can improve efficiency and quality by prioritizing essential adjustments and effects.
