Contract Acute Care Registered Nurse – Med‑Surg, Neuro & SDU

Location: Peoria, IL Contract Type: Full-Time Contract Residency Requirement: Candidates must live within 50 miles of the facility to qualify. Employment Restriction: Candidates cannot be current employees of OSF Healthcare.

Overview

We are seeking experienced Med‑Surg, Neuro, and Step‑Down Unit (SDU) Registered Nurses to support our partner facility in Peoria, Illinois. These contract roles are ideal for RNs who excel in acute care environments and are committed to delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care. You'll join a collaborative clinical team focused on high-quality outcomes and strong patient support across multiple specialty units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality nursing care to acute and complex patients in Med‑Surg, Neuro, or SDU units.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments, monitor patient conditions, and respond rapidly to changes.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions according to unit protocols.
  • Manage telemetry monitoring, neuro assessments, and step‑down level care needs.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR system.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Uphold all safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.
Requirements
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois.
  • Must live within 50 miles of the facility to qualify.
  • Cannot be a current employee of OSF Healthcare.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of recent acute care experience in Med‑Surg, Neuro, or SDU.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA preferred).
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to work in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialty certifications such as CMSRN, CCRN, or SCRN.
  • Experience in high-volume or high-acuity units.
  • Ability to manage multiple patients and shifting priorities.
Schedule & Compensation
  • Full-time contract hours; shifts may include days, nights, weekends, or rotating schedules based on department needs.
