Job description

The Network Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of broadband network infrastructure supporting video, voice, data, transport, and fiber services. This position supports Headend operations, network performance, regulatory compliance, and service reliability across the organization's broadband network.

This position may be filled at the Network Technician I, II, or III level. Placement will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience, technical expertise, certifications, and demonstrated competencies.

Title: Network Technician (Level I-III)

Location: Office located in Maricopa, AZ

Rate (by level):

  • Network Technician I: $33.65 – $40.87
  • Network Technician II: $40.87 – $48.08
  • Network Technician III: $48.08 – $60.10

Full-Time/Part Time: Full-Time

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Install, operate, maintain, and repair broadband network infrastructure and associated equipment.
  • Support delivery of off-air, satellite, microwave, fiber optic, and digital transport services to the network point of demarcation.
  • Utilize and maintain optical and electrical transmission systems, including coaxial, fiber optic, CAT6, microwave, and related ISP technologies.
  • Troubleshoot communication architectures, network topologies, hardware, software, transmission systems, signaling links, and protocols.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve network performance and service-impacting issues.
  • Configure, support, and maintain network equipment, protocols, and compatibility standards.
  • Conduct network testing, signal quality measurements, proof-of-performance testing, and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Install, maintain, test, and document Emergency Alert System (EAS) equipment.
  • Perform Headend and facility Technical Quality Assurance (TQA) inspections and ensure compliance with company standards for cabling, power, cooling, and equipment installation.
  • Maintain FCC-required records, operational logs, testing documentation, and technical records.
  • Support network planning, configuration, optimization, and enhancement initiatives.
  • Setup, operate, and maintain legacy and current headend equipment, including signal processors, modulators, demodulators, IRDs, and related technologies.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to network outages and service-impacting events as required.

Required Qualifications Include:

  • Knowledge of RF, IP, HFC, FTTH, DOCSIS, video networking, and broadband technologies.
  • Experience using optical test equipment including OTDRs, Optical Spectrum Analyzers, Fiber Light Identifiers, Optical Fiber Scopes, and Optical Power Meters.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC power systems, battery backup systems, and standby generators.
  • Ability to install and terminate coaxial, fiber optic, CAT6, and related communications cabling.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications, CADD, and related software tools.
  • Ability to read maps, schematics, technical documentation, and network diagrams.
  • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and participate in on-call support.

Minimum Qualification Include:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Post-secondary technical education preferred.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA are preferred.
  • Experience in CATV, broadband, telecommunications, networking, fiber optic, or related technologies.

Level Placement Guidelines:

Network Technician I

  • Developing technician with foundational knowledge of broadband and network technologies.
  • Performs routine maintenance, testing, installation, and troubleshooting activities under moderate supervision.
  • Builds proficiency in network operations, Headend equipment, and system diagnostics.

Network Technician II

  • Typically 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrates advanced technical knowledge and the ability to work independently on routine and moderately complex issues.
  • Serves as a technical resource for troubleshooting, network optimization, and system improvement initiatives.

Network Technician III

  • Typically 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrates expert-level technical knowledge of broadband network technologies and infrastructure.
  • Works with minimal supervision and leads complex troubleshooting efforts, network enhancement projects, and optimization initiatives.
  • Provides technical leadership and guidance while supporting the development of network standards and best practices.

    Final placement and compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, certifications, and demonstrated competencies.
