Full Time Openedge Developer information

What are some common challenges Full Time Openedge Developers face when integrating legacy systems with modern applications?

Full Time Openedge Developers often encounter challenges when integrating legacy Progress OpenEdge systems with newer technologies, such as ensuring data consistency and compatibility between old and modern platforms. They may also need to refactor existing code to support APIs or web services, which can be complex due to differences in architecture and data structures. Effective communication with cross-functional teams, like QA and front-end developers, is essential to ensure seamless integration and minimize downtime.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Openedge Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Openedge Developer, you need strong programming skills in Progress 4GL/ABL, experience with OpenEdge application development, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with OpenEdge tools, database management systems, version control, and sometimes certifications in Progress technologies are highly valued. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating with teams and translating business requirements into technical solutions. These skills are crucial for delivering robust, maintainable applications that meet client needs and support business operations.

What are Full Time Openedge Developers?

This is a full-time, exempt, remote position open to candidates residing in any U.S. state, with the exception of California. The starting salary for this position is $120,000 - $140,000 based on experience.

Who Will Love This Job:

  • Someone who enjoys owning production deployments and taking responsibility for outcomes.
  • Someone energized by building automation that eliminates manual work and improves delivery consistency.
  • Someone with strong Windows and IIS experience who enjoys tuning and optimizing application hosting.
  • Someone excited to work on mobile application deployments (iOS & Android) at scale.
  • Someone interested in helping shape future platform direction, including containerized deployments.
  • Someone who values collaboration, clear communication, and practical problem-solving.

What You’ll Do:

Mobile Deployment Ownership

  • Own end-to-end deployment, publishing, and configuration for iOS and Android mobile applications.
  • Manage App Store Connect and Google Play Console workflows, including signing, provisioning, and compliance.
  • Automate mobile build and release processes to improve consistency and reduce manual effort.
  • Coordinate closely with Engineering, Product, and Professional Services teams to ensure smooth releases.

Automation & Infrastructure-as-Code

  • Design, build, and maintain Ansible automation for deployments, APIs, IIS configuration, certificate rotation, and environment standardization.
  • Use Terraform to provision and manage infrastructure in a repeatable, auditable manner.
  • Reduce configuration drift by establishing infrastructure-as-code as the source of truth.
  • Create reusable automation patterns that support both mobile and backend systems.

Application Hosting & Platform Support

  • Operate and tune IIS in Windows-based production environments, including performance optimization and safe restarts.
  • Apply transferable web-server concepts from Apache or Nginx where applicable.
  • Support containerized workloads (Docker/Kubernetes) and help guide their adoption as part of the platform’s future state.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipeline improvements that support reliable, predictable deployments.

What You Bring:

  • 5–8 years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or related roles supporting production systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Ansible for deployment and configuration automation.
  • Working experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Hands-on experience deploying mobile applications (iOS & Android).
  • Strong IIS experience in Windows-based production environments.
  • Experience supporting production SaaS platforms and troubleshooting across application and infrastructure layers.
  • Scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, C#, or Python.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD pipelines.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Progress/OpenEdge or similar legacy platforms.
  • Exposure to container orchestration or platform modernization efforts.
  • Familiarity with authentication and identity flows (OAuth2, JWT, SSO).

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Relevant certifications are a plus, but not required.
