Role Overview:The Summer Intern will support high-priority initiatives across the company, working on real-world problems in maritime operations, national security, and data-driven decision making. Interns will be placed on a team based on their skills, interests, and company needs, with primary opportunities across
engineering, growth/strategy, and operations (with flexibility for other areas as needed).
Interns will be treated as short-term team members and will be expected to
own a project and deliver a tangible outcome by the end of the program.
Program Details:- Duration: 10-12 weeks (summer); potential for part-time continuation during the academic year.
- Hours: ~40 hours/week (summer); flexible for year-round interns depending on availability.
- Team Placement: Engineering, Growth/Strategy, or Operations (with flexibility for other functions).
- Location: Arlington, VA.
Responsibilities:- Work on a defined project aligned to company priorities, with clear ownership and deliverables
- Conduct research, analysis, or development work depending on team placement
- Support initiatives such as data analysis, software development, operational planning, or business strategy
- Contribute to customer-facing or internal deliverables (e.g., tools, dashboards, proposals, reports)
- Collaborate with team members and participate in weekly check-ins with a mentor
- Present findings and outcomes at the conclusion of the program
Example Projects:- Building analytics tools to monitor system performance and activity.
- Supporting deployment planning and coverage modeling for maritime sensing.
- Developing proposals and Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates for real-world deployments.
- Conducting market, operational, or intelligence analysis.
Qualifications:- Strong analytical, technical, or problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Interest in maritime operations, national security, or applied technology
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and open-ended problems
Preferred Backgrounds:- Maritime (Coast Guard, Navy, shipping, etc.)
- National security / homeland security
- Offshore energy / oil & gas
- Engineering, data, or technical disciplines
- Startups, consulting, or operational environments
Program Outcome:At the conclusion of the program, interns will present their work to leadership. Strong performers may be considered for future internships or full-time roles.
