This position is full-time, working 40-hours per week as the Newborn Screening Epidemiologist. This is an integral role, spanning biostatistics, epidemiology, informatics and data analysis. This position works closely with Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) Program Director, the MCH team and external partners to implement and maintain a newborn screening surveillance system, provide data reports, and analyze trends in newborn screening results. This position works in collaboration with the contracted newborn screening laboratory staff and contracted follow-up staff. This position will cooperate with key hospital and clinic personnel to ensure compliance with newborn screening procedures and quality initiatives. This position requires occasional in state and out of state travel.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Master's degree in public health or epidemiology or applied biostatistics. Knowledge of R/RStudio, SAS, SAS Enterprise guide, python, SQL, Tableau, geographic information systems (GIS), ArcGIS, and Power BI.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • knowledge of epidemiologic methods, public health reporting, and data governance practices.

Skills to:
  • produce routine and ad hoc reports for CDC, HRSA, leadership, and program staff;
  • analyze trends, disparities, and outcomes to support program improvement and evaluation;
  • develop dashboards and data visualizations for internal and external reporting;
  • support data integration, mapping, validation, and interoperability standards;
  • maintain data specifications, quality controls, and longitudinal linkage processes;
  • collaborate with IT, developers, and providers to improve workflows and system usability;
  • participate in testing, validation, and implementation activities for NBSSS enhancements;
  • support secure data access, audit logging, and compliance with HIPAA and state data governance requirements;
  • assist with onboarding providers and maintain technical documentation and user guidance;
  • support data migration, post-implementation monitoring, and data quality assessment activities;
  • demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to:
  • analyze, interpret, and communicate public health data to technical and non-technical audiences;
  • work collaboratively across programmatic, technical, and operational teams.
