Description
The University of Chicago's Department of Neurology is searching for a full-time faculty member in epilepsy genetics and neurogenetics at the rank of Assistant Professor. Compensation is dependent upon qualifications. This position is benefits-eligible. The appointee will develop an independent research program in epilepsy genetics and/or precision therapeutics, with the opportunity to collaborate with faculty across the Biological Sciences Division, including the Department of Human Genetics, the Institute for Population and Precision Health, and affiliated basic science laboratories. The research mission may encompass genetic mechanisms of epilepsy, biomarker discovery, and the development or evaluation of precision and gene-targeted therapies, including antisense oligonucleotide approaches. The appointee will be expected to pursue extramural funding and contribute to the educational mission of the Department.
Clinically, the appointee will participate in activities of the Adult Epilepsy Center, which includes inpatient and outpatient epilepsy care and EEG interpretation. Other clinical duties include teaching of fellows, residents, and medical students. The appointee will join a growing neurosciences service line with opportunities to practice at locations both on and outside of our main campus in Hyde Park.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) have completed a residency program in neurology accredited by ACGME, 3) be fellowship trained in Epilepsy and/or Clinical Neurophysiology, including advanced EEG monitoring and surgical evaluation, 4) be board certified or eligible in neurology, and 5) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the States of Illinois and Indiana.
We especially welcome applicants with experience in genetic epilepsy syndromes, ion channel biology, gene therapy, or precision medicine approaches to neurological disease.
