Library Paraprofessional-George Memorial Library
  • Interacts with library patrons to assist them in selecting materials or meeting informational needs.
  • Explains the use of reference sources such as bibliographic indexes or computer assisted reference tools.
  • Searches catalog, databases and print sources to answer patron inquiries.
  • Assists with collection development and maintenance.
  • Plans and conducts tours and programs.
  • Assembles and arranges displays and bibliographies of books and other library materials.
  • Assists and/or instructs other employees with their duties.
  • Performs database maintenance.
  • Develops, performs and/or manages youth services programming.
  • Plans and performs school visits and other outreach activities.
  • Catalogs and classifies library materials such as books, audiovisual materials, etc.
  • Provides bibliographic control using MARC Records.
  • Creates records, changes holding, using an automated system.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • One year job related experience. Relevant experience working with children in groups is preferred.
  • Computer skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication including interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Requires evening and weekend work.
