Position Overview
Urgent Academy is seeking a passionate and innovative STEAM Instructor to join our middle school. The STEAM Instructor will be responsible for developing and delivering a dynamic STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) curriculum to students, fostering a love for these subjects through hands-on, project-based learning. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about engaging students in interdisciplinary learning and inspiring creativity and critical thinking.
Key Responsibilities

  1. Curriculum Development:
    • Design and implement a comprehensive STEAM curriculum aligned with state and ISTE Standards.
    • Develop lesson plans that integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.
    • Incorporate project-based learning, real-world applications, and collaborative projects.
  2. Instruction:
    • Deliver engaging and interactive STEAM lessons to students of varying ages and skill levels.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and instructional technologies to accommodate diverse learning styles.
    • Foster a classroom environment that encourages inquiry, problem-solving, and creativity.
  3. Student Assessment:
    • Assess and monitor student progress through authentic assessment, complemented by formative and summative assessments.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
    • Adjust instructional strategies based on assessment data and student needs.
  4. Classroom Engagement:
    • Create a positive and inclusive classroom culture.
    • Establish and enforce classroom rules and procedures.
    • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment.
  5. Professional Development:
    • Stay current with developments in STEAM education and integrate new strategies and technologies into the curriculum.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities and collaborative planning sessions with colleagues.
  6. Community Engagement:
    • Engage with parents, community members, and industry partners to enhance the STEAM program.
    • Organize and participate in STEAM-related events, competitions, and exhibitions.
    • Promote STEAM education within the school and the broader community.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
    Florida Department of Education Teaching Certification for grades 6-8, preferred.
  • Experience teaching in a STEAM-focused environment is preferred.
  • Two or more years of related experience and/or training, preferably in a middle school setting, is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of interdisciplinary teaching methods and project-based learning.
  • Familiarity or experience with the Big Picture Learning or High Tech High model is a plus.
  • Proficiency with instructional technologies and educational software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Dynamic Teaching style
  • All required background clearances.
  • Spanish or Haitian Creole, a plus
  • Enjoy working with middle school youth.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, computer, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to positive youth development and culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy.
