Position Information
This recruitment is promotional only. You must presently be a full or part-time regular or probationary County of Sonoma, Community Development Commission, Sonoma County Fairgrounds, or Sonoma County Water Agency employee in order to apply for this position.
Sonoma County Regional Parks has requested a department promotional certification to fill a Marina Supervisor position. Only qualified permanent and/or probationary Regional Parks employees on the eligible list may be eligible for referral to the department for the advertised position. This employment list may also be used to fill future full-time or part-time positions as they occur during the active status of the list.
Regional Parks oversees the operation of Spud Point Marina, Mason's Marina, and the Sport Fishing Center, including more than 375 berths and slips, transient moorage, public launching facilities, dry storage, fuel services, marine ice operations, waterfront infrastructure, and public access to one of California's premier public working waterfronts. In addition, the Spud Point Marina Ice House is the only large-scale marine ice production facility located between San Francisco and Fort Bragg. Serving as the primary point of contact for tenants, contractors, and the public, the Marina Supervisor works to ensure high-quality service and long-term facility through effective budgeting, recordkeeping, procurement, and operational planning. Additionally, the Marina Supervisor position is responsible for supervising marina staff, maintaining infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards.

• The ability to evaluate operational improvements, capital investments, emerging business opportunities, and industry trends that strengthen long-term sustainability and enhance the visitor and customer experience
• An understanding of the importance of preserving and strengthening Bodega Bay's working waterfront while supporting commercial fishing, recreational boating, tourism, public access, and environmental stewardship

In this role, incumbents drive assigned County vehicles on dirt roads, pavements, and in various weather conditions. This position typically works Monday through Friday at Spud Point Marina, Bodega Bay, and requires flexibility to work extended hours during peak seasons, such as commercial fishing seasons.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience and Education: Any combination of formal education, training and experience that provides an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of harbor and Marina facilities, including some experience as a lead worker, would provide such an opportunity.
Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care card and First Aid/First Responder Certificate and completion of the California Boating Safety Course. Possession of a Hazwopper Hazmat Certification is required within six months of employment.
License: Possession of a valid California driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of: Marina operation and maintenance; federal, state and local laws, ordinances, regulations and codes pertaining to the Marina, boating, and inland waterways; safe boating operations and search and rescue techniques; hand tools, work aides, power tools and light machines used in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and related work; and tides and weather conditions.
Working knowledge of: full dock and ice plant operations; monetary and statistical record keeping; advanced first aid techniques and practices, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Ability to: follow written and oral directions; effectively train, schedule, assign and supervise subordinate personnel; perform arithmetic calculations involving United States monetary units and other basic arithmetic calculations; use electronic information equipment to create spreadsheets, reports, and other documents; tactfully enforce Marina rules, regulations, laws and ordinances, and issue written citations for violations; operate small boating craft; swim; plan and direct Marina operations; perform general building and unskilled maintenance and repair tasks with hand tools, work aides, and light machines; comply with and enforce common safety practices and procedures; detect safety hazards within a Marina area and take corrective action; establish and/or maintain recordkeeping and filing systems; prepare written reports; apply advanced first aid to Marina visitors; speak effectively before groups and audiences; perform moderately heavy physical labor; prepare an annual budget; work during weekdays, weekends, holidays, and shift hours; may wear a uniform; and may live in County provided housing.
