Job description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.
Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MSE), part of Amazon Leo Prod-Ops, delivers software solutions that improve the speed and quality of Kuiper manufacturing systems. We partner with engineering and production teams to bring reliability and repeatability to our systems, improve throughput, and accelerate production transitions.
We are seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the software systems that power production operations. You will own the technical roadmap, define requirements, and architect solutions that seamlessly integrate software with manufacturing systems. You will collaborate with technology leaders, translate business requirements into actionable deliverables, create rapid prototypes, and guide the implementation of robust and scalable systems. You will leverage AWS cloud services, IoT, data analytics, and other modern technologies to optimize production throughput while enhancing operator safety and efficiency.
Key job responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement manufacturing software systems for production operations of the Amazon Leo satellite fleet, including integration with manufacturing systems.
- Architect scalable software solutions that meet functional requirements, security standards, and performance specifications.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that improve manufacturing efficiency and production quality.
- Define and implement growth strategies for software services and team capabilities.
- Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience with hardware/software integration and real-time systems

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
