Job description

DEPARTMENT: Retail Store

REPORTS TO: Store Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lumber Yard Foreman is responsible for day-to-day operations of the lumber yard including supervising team members, handling customer requests, maintaining the appearance of the yard, and sorting and racking lumber according to grade markings and size. They often operate a forklift or industrial truck to assist in moving and loading materials and products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Direct the daily operations of the lumber yard team
  2. Provide outstanding customer service
  3. Answers questions, identify and direct customers to building materials and merchandise in the lumber yard
  4. Load merchandise on to store delivery trucks for delivery or transfer
  5. Assist with unloading deliveries, as necessary
  6. Remove lumber from units and place boards in rack, according to grade and length
  7. Reads work order, invoice, or follows oral instructions to determine materials or containers needing moved and/or loaded
  8. Assist customers with loading purchased merchandise
  9. Maintain the appearance of the yard and racks in an orderly and clean manner
  10. Operate forklift or industrial truck to assist in loading or moving merchandise and materials
  11. Complete daily forklift inspections
  12. Adhere to Loss Prevention, inventory control, and compliance procedures
  13. Safety awareness of anything in store that may be hazard to employees or customers
  14. Effectively communicates customer issues and concerns to all applicable internal staff members
  15. Additional duties, as assigned

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Prior lumber yard and supervisory experience is essential
  2. Forklift experience is preferred
  3. CDL preferred but not required
  4. Ability to:
  1. Read and comprehend simple verbal or written instructions
  2. Effectively communicate with customers, management, and co-workers
  3. Demonstrate initiative and effective problem-solving skills within the scope of the position
  4. Work in a fast-paced environment

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items weighing up to 75 pounds.
