Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Weight Loss Program
Location: Get Well Clinic Family Health & Weight Loss
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for the Weight Loss Program plays an essential role in supporting the provider and ensuring patients receive safe, efficient, and compassionate care throughout their weight management journey. This position focuses on assisting with weight loss consultations, patient education, medication preparation, injection administration, documentation, and follow-up communication.
The CMA will work closely with the provider to monitor patient progress, ensure compliance with clinic protocols, and maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record system.
Core Responsibilities
Patient Intake & Clinical Support
  • Welcome and prepare patients for weight loss visits, both in-office and telehealth appointments.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, including:
    • Blood pressure
    • Heart rate
    • Weight
    • Height
    • BMI calculation
  • Record weekly weight tracking and progress measurements.
  • Review and update medical history, medications, allergies, and contraindications.
  • Screen patients for eligibility for weight loss medications per clinic protocols.
  • Notify provider of abnormal vital signs or contraindications.
Weight Loss Program Duties
  • Assist with patient enrollment into the clinic’s weight management program.
  • Educate patients on:
    • Semaglutide
    • Tirzepatide
    • Phentermine
    • Lipo-C injections
    • B12 injections
  • Review medication instructions including:
    • Dosage schedules
    • Injection technique
    • Expected outcomes
    • Side effects
  • Provide lifestyle guidance including diet, hydration, and activity recommendations.
Medication Preparation & Injection Administration
  • Prepare and administer injections according to provider orders including:
    • Semaglutide

    • Tirzepatide

    • Lipo-C

    • Vitamin B12

  • Maintain proper sterile technique and injection safety protocols.
  • Verify medication dosage and patient identification prior to administration.
  • Monitor patients for immediate adverse reactions.
  • Document medication lot numbers and expiration dates when applicable.
Telehealth Support
  • Conduct pre-visit intake for telehealth weight loss consultations.
  • Obtain updated patient information including:
    • Current weight
    • Medication tolerance
    • Side effects
    • Appetite changes
  • Prepare chart for provider review prior to consultation.
  • Send patient instructions through patient portal or clinic messaging system.
Documentation & EMR Responsibilities
  • Accurately document all patient encounters in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Record:
    • Weight trends
    • Medication doses
    • Injection administration
    • Patient-reported symptoms
  • Ensure documentation supports appropriate billing and coding guidelines.
  • Upload patient forms, consent documents, and intake questionnaires.
Medication Inventory Management
  • Monitor clinic supply of weight loss medications and injections.
  • Maintain accurate medication inventory logs.
  • Assist with receiving medication shipments and verifying:
    • Lot numbers
    • Expiration dates
  • Ensure medications are stored according to temperature and safety guidelines.
Patient Communication & Follow-Up
  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding:
    • Medication use
    • Side effects
    • Appointment scheduling
  • Conduct follow-up calls or messages for:
    • Missed appointments
    • Medication check-ins
    • Weight progress updates
  • Reinforce provider instructions and clinic policies.
Administrative Duties
  • Schedule follow-up weight loss appointments.
  • Verify patient consent forms and program agreements.
  • Ensure required documentation is completed prior to provider visits.
  • Assist with maintaining organized patient charts and records.
Qualifications
Required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience administering subcutaneous and intramuscular injections

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred
  • Experience in weight management or metabolic clinics

  • Familiarity with GLP-1 medications

  • Experience using Electronic Medical Record systems
