The Shared Resources (SR) Technician - Glassware is responsible for supporting the SR Glassware needs of researchers and the SR Specialists at Fred Hutch. The SR Glassware Technician will assist researchers in maintaining laboratory glassware and other related services.  This position will be expected to learn proper technique for cleaning and sterilizing laboratory glassware and operate cleaning and sterilizing equipment such as dishwashers, autoclaves, and ovens, and perform routine maintenance and calibration of same equipment.  This is an entry level position within the resource with substantial room for growth.

Research Support: This role involves:

  • Processing laboratory glassware according to established SOPs and specific lab instructions, including:
    • Preparation of glassware for machine or hand washing
    • Washing and drying using appropriate methodologies
    • Preparation for dry heat or steam sterilization (bagging, wrapping)
    • Inspection for cleanliness at key points
    • Labeling of glassware
    • Reviewing all carts prior to distribution for accuracy
  • Sterilizing liquids and infectious waste using appropriate methods and advising labs on procedures
  • Maintaining departmental logbooks (e.g., breakage, maintenance)
  • Perform designated quality assurance tests and keep timely and accurate records in logbooks according to established departmental procedures.
  • Assisting in validation of SOPs and procedure documentation
  • Supporting autoclave operations, including sterility assurance testing and daily cleaning
  • Support husbandry of aquatics
  • Support aquatics tank sanitation
  • Delegate and ensure completion of daily activities in the absence of leads/supervisors

Equipment Oversight: This role will:

  • Learn and operate all facility equipment (e.g., glasswashers, dryers, dry heat sterilizers, autoclaves) per manufacturer specs
  • Clean and maintain lab and facility autoclaves
  • Report equipment issues to Lead or Supervisor

Training and Education: This position will:

  • Understand team SOPs and training materials and guidelines for investigator use.

Administrative tasks: Tasks for this role include:

  • Accurate and timely documentation in logbooks according to SOPs
  • Use of basic tools such as Microsoft Office, databases, and mobile devices for tracking and communication

Regulatory and Compliance:This position:

  • Performs duties in accordance with departmental safety procedures and institutional regulations

Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in glassware operations or demonstrated significant knowledge and leadership experience in similar operations
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and proven reliability
  • Ability to perform all tasks and duties of the Glassware Core

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience providing lab support in a research or healthcare setting
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new systems and techniques
  • Ability to learn and operate and/or follow all operating and safety procedures for autoclaves, ovens, dishwashers, and other equipment SOPs
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar productivity software

The hourly pay range for this position is from $23.33 to $33.21 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
