The National Security Research Center (NSRC) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) seeks a full-time Knowledge Management Specialist (Program Manager 1/2).
The NSRC Weapons Knowledge Management (WKM) program identifies and captures the complex technical expertise of Weapons staff, ensuring mission critical knowledge is safeguarded and accessible to the future weapons workforce.
The Knowledge Management (KM) Specialist provides leadership and implementation of knowledge management programs for Weapons Production. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and institutionalizing knowledge management strategies and interventions that promote knowledge capture, transfer, and reuse across programs and functions in ALDWP (Associate Laboratory Directorate in Weapons Production). You will report to the Team Lead for Knowledge Management, but work closely with management in Weapons Mission Support.
As a KM Specialist, you will design and implement initiatives that ensure critical technical knowledge is systematically retained and leveraged to strengthen ALDWP's technical capacity and professional skills development. The position partners with leaders and subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate complex knowledge and professional wisdom into shared institutional assets and builds sustainable mechanisms for continuous learning and sharing of Weapons expertise.
This position focuses on building the frameworks, programs, tools and relationships that embed knowledge-capture and sharing practices into the culture and operations of Weapons Production.
Program Manager 1 ($85,900 - $139,900)
As a Program Manager 1, the candidate will perform tasks and be responsible for including but not limited to the following:

• Designing and deploying tailored Knowledge Management (KM) interventions-such as documentation and knowledge base articles, knowledge capture sessions, lessons-learned programs, and training frameworks-to strengthen organizational learning and knowledge continuity.
• Overseeing structured approaches for capturing and transferring critical knowledge from departing employees and roles vulnerable to knowledge loss.
• Managing a portfolio of KM projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment ALWP customer priorities and workflows.
• Identifying risks and opportunities associated with knowledge loss or gaps in critical skills and information; working with the customer and KM team lead to develop mitigation strategies.
• Serving as Weapons Production's primary liaison for KM activities in collaboration with the Weapons Knowledge Management team lead, engaging with stakeholders at all levels to identify needs, assess opportunities, and co-design sustainable solutions.
• Maintaining working knowledge of the relevant KM and basic technical capabilities of the organization and adheres to all Laboratory and regulatory guidance and governance specific to the programmatic work of assigned portfolio(s).

Program Manager 2 ($104,100 - $172,200)
As Program Manager 2, in addition to the core responsibilities outlined at the lower level:

• Manages a portfolio of KM projects and initiatives from conception to implementation, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, performance objectives, and available resources.
• Develops new methodologies and mitigation strategies to facilitate effective transfer of tacit and explicit knowledge across teams and functions; proactively implements approaches to preserve and share critical knowledge.
• Builds partnerships across technical areas and support teams to ensure KM activities are efficient and accessible to all users.
• Defining success metrics for KM initiatives to analyze impact, drive improvement, and communicate outcomes to leadership and stakeholders.
• Partners with managers to embed KM practices into daily work, decision-making, and Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP) culture.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

• Entry-level experience in knowledge management, adult education, materials production, interview protocols, technical communication or related work.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective internal and external relationships.
• Ability to work with stakeholders, vendors, sponsors, and cross-functional teams to achieve change management objectives.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and contribute to documentation, reports, or presentations.

Additional Job Requirements for Program Manager 2:

• Experience in developing and nurturing effective customer relationships.
• Working/professional experience in knowledge management, adult education, materials production, interview protocols, technical communication or related work.
• Working knowledge of and experience in program management, to include defining performance objectives.

Education/Experience at Program Manager 1: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 2 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Program Manager 2: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in Knowledge Management, particularly in knowledge capture or elicitation
• Experience with content management tools and systems
• Experience working in DOE or DOD settings; experience in a production environment or with technical experts
• Interest in adult learning, technical writing, or multimedia communication
• Understanding of LANL cultural and technological history
• Active Q Clearance

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.
