Job description

Key Holder / Supervisor — Fox's Deli

Location: Fox's Deli Job Type: Full-Time Reports To: Owner

About Us

Fox's Deli is a busy, community-rooted deli known for great food and a fast-paced, high-energy front of house. We're looking for a Key Holder/Supervisor who takes ownership of the shift, keeps the front of house running smoothly, and holds the team to a high standard — even when the owners aren't in the building.

Position Overview

The Key Holder/Supervisor is a front-of-house leadership role responsible for opening and closing the restaurant, running shifts, and making sure our systems are followed. You're the person the team looks to when something needs a decision, and the person who notices small problems before they become big ones.

Key Responsibilities

Shift Leadership

  • Run front-of-house shifts from open to close, delegating tasks and keeping the pace of service on track
  • Step in on the floor during rushes — expo, register, or wherever the gap is
  • Make real-time decisions on staffing, breaks, and problem-solving without needing to escalate every issue

Opening & Closing

  • Open the restaurant: complete opening checklists, set up front-of-house stations, and ensure the store is ready before doors open
  • Close the restaurant: complete closing checklists, secure cash and registers, ensure cleaning standards are met, and lock up
  • Serve as a keyholder with the responsibility and trust that comes with it (alarm codes, keys, safe procedures)

Systems & Standards

  • Implement and enforce established front-of-house systems (side work lists, cleaning schedules, cash handling procedures, food safety practices)
  • Hold staff accountable to systems consistently
  • Flag gaps in existing systems and suggest improvements based on what you see on the floor

Team & Customer Experience

  • Set the tone for the shift — professionalism, urgency, and hospitality
  • Handle customer concerns in the moment and know when to loop in ownership
  • Support onboarding/training of new front-of-house staff on systems and standards

Operations Support

  • Monitor front-of-house inventory/supplies and flag reorder needs
  • Communicate shift recaps, incidents, or concerns to ownership clearly and promptly
  • Support scheduling coverage as needed (e.g., flagging gaps, covering call-outs)

What We're Looking For

  • Prior experience in a restaurant/deli/food service leadership role (shift lead, supervisor, or key holder)
  • Comfortable being the most senior person in the building and making decisions independently
  • Strong organizational skills — able to run a checklist-driven operation
  • Clear, direct communicator who can hold a team accountable without drama
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Food handler certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Available to work opening and/or closing shifts, including weekends

Nice to Have

  • Experience training or mentoring staff
  • POS system experience (Toast or the equivalent)

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Employee discount
  • Growth opportunity within a growing, multi-location business
  • A real seat at the table — this is a trusted, high-visibility role
