Under the direction of the Deputy Chief, Fleet (Fire), the Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM) performs a wide variety of mechanical work. The incumbent constructs, repairs, and maintains automotive and heavy maintenance and construction equipment; may instruct and lead or direct the work of apprentices, help Service Assistants (Automotive), or other employees, inmates, wards, or resident workers; and do other related work. Incumbents in this position must be willing to work overtime.
Incumbent must possess or obtain a valid California Commercial Driver's License (Class B) with Tank and Air Brake endorsements within six (6) months of appointment. These endorsements are required for the movement of certified equipment and vehicles. Maintaining a valid license with all required endorsements in a condition of continued employment.

This position is Headquartered in Mather, Sacramento County.
In Office: This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position.
