Job description

This is a senior attorney role to lead the negotiation and execution of derivatives documentation supporting our global Markets trading activities. This role will serve as a key partner to front office, risk, and legal teams, managing complex master trading agreements, such as ISDA and Futures Clearing agreements, and advising on legal and regulatory risk across OTC derivatives transactions.
The position requires deep expertise in ISDA Master Agreements, collateral documentation, and derivatives market practice, along with strong stakeholder management and negotiation capabilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as lead negotiator and subject matter expert for ISDA Master Agreements, Schedules, Credit Support Annexes (CSAs), and related derivatives and collateral documentation; manage complex, bespoke negotiations across the full documentation lifecycle
  • Provide legal counsel and guidance to Markets business stakeholders, interpreting applicable laws, rules, regulations, and industry practices and delivering commercially practical, risk-appropriate solutions
  • Advise senior management on legal matters impacting trading activities, client relationships, and strategic initiatives, contributing informed, business-oriented perspectives to decision-making
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage legal, regulatory, and reputational risk in coordination with Legal, Risk, and ICRM; ensure alignment with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Objectively assess business proposals against institutional risk appetite, regulatory frameworks, and market standards, escalating issues as appropriate
  • Collaborate closely with Trading, Sales, Credit, Risk, Operations, and Legal teams across regions to deliver coordinated, efficient, and consistent outcomes
  • Oversee day-to-day legal and documentation activities as a subject matter expert, ensuring timely execution and appropriate escalation of complex or high-risk matters
  • Contribute to strategic planning and development initiatives for Markets Contract Negotiations, providing thought leadership based on deep knowledge of derivatives markets and regulatory developments
  • Drive process improvements, standardization, and efficiency in documentation workflows, negotiation strategies, and operational practices
  • Monitor and manage complex legal issues and transactions, ensuring transparency, strong governance, and effective resolution
  • Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and ethical judgment; safeguard the firm, its clients, and assets by promoting compliance, accountability, and a strong control environment

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating ISDA Master Agreements and Futures/Clearing contracts is required
  • Banking or financial industry experience, including laws related to banking regulations
  • Knowledge of international laws, regulations and practices while staying abreast of regulatory and legal environment, internal policies and industry trends that impact the business
  • Experience with complex deals, demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop legal solutions
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills
