We have partnered with a nationally recognized homebuilder in Perris, CA, looking for a Lead Cost Analyst for their Costing Department.
This is an on-site/full-time/direct hire position
Salary range based on experience: Up to $85K
This role is central to ensuring accurate product costing, maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs), supporting plant operations, and driving improvements in cost systems and inventory accuracy. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, manufacturing costing experience, and the ability to lead both people and processes in a fast-paced production environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Department Oversight
  • Recruit, train, and develop new team members within the Costing Department.
  • Oversee daily workflow, ensuring timely and accurate completion of cost-related tasks.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive coaching to support team growth.

Cost Analysis & Reporting
  • Conduct market research to recommend pricing or business model adjustments.
  • Prepare periodic cost reconciliation reports, tracking labor, material, and supply cost changes.
  • Review Daily Production Reports to identify margin irregularities and escalate issues as needed.
  • Provide cost impact analysis for Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Sales Change Requests (SCRs), and Production Work Orders (PWOs)

Bills of Materials (BOM) Management
  • Develop and maintain accurate BOMs for all models and options produced at the plant.
  • Perform prototyping, re-audits, category audits, and like-model comparisons to ensure BOM accuracy.
  • Modify BOMs immediately upon approved ECRs and communicate changes to plant buyers and management.
  • Review monthly BOM changes and justify any cost impact greater than ±$10.

Plant Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Attend daily/weekly staff meetings to communicate DMR issues, audit discrepancies, inventory preparation, and material concerns.
  • Provide cost details for new options, prototypes, and special projects.
  • Audit foam seal usage weekly and report cost per linear foot.
  • Support Oracle ERP implementation initiatives and adhere to established costing policies.

Inventory Control & Reconciliation
  • Prepare the facility for physical inventory and participate directly in counting and reconciliation.
  • Review and reconcile physical inventory results, including work-in-process material counts.
  • Key damaged materials (DMRs) into the system and investigate unusual quantities.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field highly desired.
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing costing experience preferred.
  • Exceptional mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Strong initiative, assertiveness, and ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to positively influence peers and managers.
  • Expert proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel; Oracle/ERP experience preferred.
