DescriptionGeneral roadway maintenance and marking, traffic and roadway signage, general labor, grounds maintenance, and stormwater utility repairs.
Examples of Duties- Snow removal, operating truck with snow plows and salt spinners
- Perform traffic control in work zone areas
- Operates small motorized equipment, such as but not limited to: weed-eaters, lawn mowers, chainsaws, etc.
- Operates heavy equipment such as backhoe, track hoe, bulldozer, vacuum truck, street sweeper, etc.
- Knowledge of street and stormwater repairs
- Roadway paving and repair
- Perform labor duties such as but not limited to: shoveling, brick/block laying, etc.
- Creation, installation and maintenance of traffic and roadway signage
- Includes non-technical maintenance (batteries, power resetting, bulb replacement, etc.) of signaling devices
- Installation and maintenance of roadway markings
- Other related duties as required
**Position requires rotating on-call scheduling as well as recalls to duty outside normal work hours**Typical QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent; must have a valid CDL Class B license with ability to obtain a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within six months (the class A requirement applies to external applicants ONLY); one to three years of experience; ability to work different shifts; basic computer skills.
*Current City of Newark employees transferring to this position who hold any level IMSA certification shall be permitted to maintain such certification, including continuing education credits, and be compensated following Article 32, Section 5. Other employees seeking IMSA certification may be permitted to do so at the discretion of the Service Director and/or Street Maintenance Superintendent.
