Nexus Children’s Hospital – Houston
Schedule: 12-hour shifts | 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM | Every Other Weekend |

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Houston provides structured inpatient care for children ages 4 to 18 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). Located in Houston’s Westchase District, our bright, home-like environment offers a safe and supportive setting where children can grow, stabilize, and build the skills needed for success.

Our program focuses on behavioral stability, communication development, and daily living skills. Our interdisciplinary team works closely with patients and families to reduce aggressive behaviors, improve social functioning, and help each child successfully reintegrate into their community — because at Nexus, we’re mending minds.


Position Summary

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct behavioral support to children and adolescents with autism and developmental disabilities. Working under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the RBT implements behavior plans, collects data, and helps maintain the structured environment essential for patient safety and progress.

This role requires patience, consistency, and the ability to work with patients who may have behavioral, emotional, or developmental challenges.


Key Responsibilities
  • Implement behavior intervention plans under BCBA supervision
  • Provide direct behavioral support during daily routines, therapy, meals, and transitions
  • Collect and document behavioral data accurately
  • Maintain structured environments and follow safety protocols
  • Assist patients with daily living activities when behavioral support is needed
  • Monitor patient behavior and report changes to nursing or clinical staff
  • Respond to behavioral escalations using approved de-escalation techniques
  • Collaborate with nursing, therapy, and education teams
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Follow Nexus policies, HIPAA standards, and safety procedures
  • Support a therapeutic, structured environment that promotes patient progress

Qualifications
  • Active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification required or ability to obtain
  • BLS / CPR certification required
  • De-escalation training required within 30 days of hire
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, or related field preferred
  • Experience working with autism, developmental disabilities, or behavioral health patients preferred
  • Hospital, residential, school, or ABA experience preferred
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care
  • Comfort working in a structured behavioral environment
