Job description

General Construction Laborer / Construction Helper

Godby Hearth & Home is seeking a motivated and dependable General Construction Laborer to join our growing team. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working with tools, learning new skills, and being part of a team that takes pride in quality craftsmanship.

Whether you have construction experience or are looking to start a career in the trades, we provide on-the-job training and opportunities to grow. You'll assist with a variety of residential construction projects, including fireplace installation, service, framing, demolition, finish work, material handling, and general jobsite support.

We've established ourselves as a trusted provider of high-quality products and services in the residential construction industry. As a locally owned company with fewer than 30 employees, we're committed to creating an inclusive workplace where employees feel valued and supported. This is a full-time, year-round position with overtime opportunities during our busy season.

Our Core Values

We Stretch Ourselves • We Take Pride in Our Service • We Are Accountable • We Respect and Value Each Other • We Share Knowledge

We work with fire, but this is our SPARK!

What's in it for you?
  • $18–$25 per hour, depending on experience
  • Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM (average 45 hours per week)
  • Optional overtime during the busy season
  • Comprehensive benefits package including:
    • Paid Time Off
    • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
    • Short & Long-Term Disability
    • Life Insurance
    • Identity Theft Protection
    • 401(k) with company match
  • 10% commission on accessories sold (potential to earn an additional $5,000–$10,000 annually)
What You'll Do
  • Assist with a variety of residential construction, installation, and service projects.
  • Load, unload, transport, and organize tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist with fireplace installations, maintenance, and repairs while learning the trade from experienced technicians.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Help with demolition, framing, finish work, and general construction tasks as needed.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe jobsites.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and assist with repairs.
  • Follow OSHA guidelines and company safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and customers while representing the company professionally.
What We're Looking For
  • Construction, remodeling, landscaping, warehouse, delivery, or other hands-on experience is a plus—but we're willing to train the right person.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude.
  • Good problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (no DUI due to insurance requirements).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 75+ pounds independently and 200+ pounds with team assistance.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb ladders, and remain physically active throughout the workday.
Why You'll Love Working Here

We're serious about doing quality work—but we also believe work should be enjoyable. We maintain a positive, team-oriented atmosphere where everyone is respected and encouraged to grow.

  • Family-oriented culture
  • Supportive and approachable leadership
  • Stable, year-round employment
  • Opportunities to learn skilled trades and advance your career
  • Your growth is limited only by your initiative—we're happy to teach new skills to those who are eager to learn.

If you're dependable, enjoy working with your hands, and want to build a career in construction, we'd love to meet you.
