Job description

PURPOSE & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Activities associated with this position include aiding senior center employees as well as senior members of the community both in person and on the telephone providing essential health information, assistance, health screening, and wellness. Leading seniors in a variety of health activities. Organizing one monthly health fair. This position will work closely with the Mayor.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments of community health needs
  • Assist in developing resources and strategies to meet assessed health needs, including monthly health fairs, health screenings for seniors, weekly focused assessment.
  • Coordinate with health care providers to host screening, or educational opportunities
  • Utilize knowledge and training to implement evidenced based health education and programs in creative ways to reach target populations in the community
  • Assist with the design and delivery of relevant in-service training programs for employees and members of the community
  • Provide community health and/or benefit related activities offsite in various community locations such as grocery stores and community centers
  • Distribute benefits and health information to senior adults
  • Create weekly summary of activity report to Senior Health Educator Supervisor
  • Other duties that may be assigned

NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

  • Ability to navigate through various software programs on a computer.
  • Ability to assist seniors with exercise classes
  • Comfortable speaking to large groups, and leading health education classes/events
  • High school diploma or GED required. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in public health, health education, or related field preferred.
  • Experience equivalent to one year of full-time health education work.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

PREFERRED

One or more of the following qualifications are preferred.

BLS Certified

First Aid Experience

LPN, Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician
