A Little About Us: ZAP is a full-service engineering, design, and construction management firm servicing the oil & gas, heavy industrial, mining, and manufacturing sectors. From our Lakewood, Colorado office, we execute projects across North America spanning from California to Florida and Canada down to Mexico. Our projects range in size from simple engineering studies or maintenance repairs to full-scale design of large facilities. ZAP operates at a fast-pace while providing a team-centric approach to our work.

About your role

This is a full-time, hands-on professional position responsible for supervising, mentoring, and overseeing technical deliverables generated by the discipline specific engineering department.

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities

  • QA/QC of Engineering deliverables
    • Perform discipline engineering tasks within the knowledge base of the Director's background, education, and licensure.
    • Check project deliverables.
    • Function as the engineer of record on projects.
  • Professional Development and Team Guidance
    • Conduct 1-1s with supervisors and employees, as well as employee training on tasks
    • Provide technical guidance to supervisors and employees.
    • Conduct multi-person training.
    • Develop and maintain standards for department.
    • Develop and maintain workflow for department to ensure efficiency.
  • Department Resourcing
    • Review current staffing levels against upcoming work to ensure schedules can be maintained.
    • Allocate work to engineers within the department to ensure the task and skillset are aligned.
    • Complete the ZAP resourcing tool and attend weekly resourcing meetings.
    • Recruit employees to grow the department to meet company objectives.
  • Creating project budgets and schedules
    • Generate proposals as needed.
    • Review proposals generated by supervisors and other BD team members.
    • Review project schedules with project management to ensure workflow is correct and project timeline can be achieved.
    • Review hours spent against budget.
  • Client Interaction
    • Interface with clients regarding upcoming opportunities.
    • Review business development queue with BD team on a weekly basis.
    • Answer questions regarding projects when acting as project sponsor.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Work Hours:

Company Hours

This position works 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hours vary and are dependent on business needs.

40 Hour Work Week

Monday through Friday, Hours may vary with the workload.

Evenings/Weekends/OT

As needed to satisfy the requirements of the position.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree of science in Engineering or equivalent experience required.
  • Professional Engineering license required.

Type of Experience Needed to be Successful

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience acting as a discipline engineer on multi-discipline engineering projects.
  • 3 years of previous supervisory experience required.

  • Advanced problem-solving skills, to be able to manage complex situations with multiple layers and resolve to solution anticipating needs now and into the future.

  • Advanced leadership skills with experience leading large or technical teams through complex deliverables.
  • Expert user of technology and software required to execute daily tasks.
  • Must have a valid, active driver's license and ability to maintain a good driving record.

Supervisory Expectations

  • The position supervises or manages the work of at least two full-time employees or the equivalent. The position includes decisions or recommendations regarding personnel actions such as hiring, disciplinary action, overtime, changes in pay and terminations.

Independence of Action

  • Results are defined; the incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow. Although precedents may exist, supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.
