The Importance of the Role

The Associate Director of Global Program Management serves as a program manager, working closely with program teams and other cross-functional teams to ensure execution of the aligned program strategy. The Associate Director is responsible for creation of project plans, identifying and tracking critical path/activities, goals, risks, contingencies, and alternative pathways. The Associate Director will possess an in-depth understanding of drug development in a matrix organization including the basic tenets of stage gate decision making and interdependencies. This individual will drive alignment to overall priorities, objectives, deliverables, interdependencies, and timelines to remain on-track by executing against the pipeline strategic plan. The Associate Director will proactively manage daily program management activities, including function-specific development activities, and integration across project programs, budget, communication, and status reporting. In certain cases, the Program Manager may work closely with a specific function to support major deliverable(s). Will ensure that all team members understand and align to overall priorities, objectives, deliverables, interdependencies, and timelines to execute flawlessly in support of the pipeline strategy plan.

The Opportunity to Make a Difference

  • Serve as lead program manager for program team(s) and other ad-hoc cross-functional teams as required.
  • Aligns cross-functional program goals with Corporate goals, regularly tracks goals and independently develops mitigations to achieve goals on time.
  • Works with the program team to proactively identify, mitigate, and maintain risks.
  • Generates and maintains integrated programs timelines that serve as a source of truth for teams and leadership; ensures timelines for inter-program dependencies are aligned, executed, tracked and communicated to applicable stakeholders.
  • Communicates program status, timelines, updates, and key decisions to all key stakeholders.
  • Generates and maintains program dashboards to share status of key program metrics for senior leadership.
  • Fosters strong relationships with team members and functional line managers.
  • Together with the team/program leads, serves as key point person for program team members on project-related communications and issue identification and management.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement to team effectiveness, processes, communication and/or program outcomes.
  • Independently executes effective meetings including management of planning, agendas, tracking actions/decision, and communicating key messages.
  • Independently leads and manages ad-hoc teams and/or projects with specific deliverables.
  • Demonstrates risk-based decision making to ensure optimal decisions regarding program development and key inflections.
  • Advises and/or manages other program managers as necessary.

More about You

  • BS or equivalent; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of industry related experience with at least 2 years of experience in a manager role; advanced degrees may supplement industry and managerial experience
  • Prior Program management experience in a matrix organization is required
  • Proficient communication skills
  • Proficient program manager skills: PMP certification preferred.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with proven ability to balance conflicting priorities across multiple workstreams.
  • Proficient at facilitating the development of sound team recommendations for trade-offs between resources (personnel, financial investment, manufacturing, and organizational capacity) to achieve aligned corporate objectives with a "sense of urgency".
  • Expert proficiency with MS Project and other Program Management timeline tools such as Workfront.
  • Proficient with standard Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Prior technical experience in a scientific discipline expected.
  • Highly collaborative team player who fosters open communication, facilitates mutual understanding and cooperation with all stakeholders.
  • Adaptive communication skills (including interpersonal, written, verbal) and able to influence others without authority.
  • Proficient oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to clearly convey information to peers, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
  • Continually identifies and informs appropriate individuals on emerging trends, opportunities, and threats.
  • Facilitates risk-based decision making based on business priorities in the context of risks, trade-offs, timing, and available resources.
