Job description

The Opportunity

Crye Precision is growing, and our product range is growing with it. We recently completed a new 85,000 sq ft landmark facility, designed from the ground up to support innovation - and we are investing in the people who will use it. We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to design, test, and build the manufacturing solutions behind our tactical apparel and gear. The role blends hands-on engineering, process development, and analytical problem solving, with real ownership of the fixtures, automation, and production lines you build. This is a full-time, on-site position at our Brooklyn Navy Yard headquarters, reporting to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering.

Job Responsibilities

- Problem Solving: Apply engineering principles to a wide variety of challenging problems related to the manufacturing of tactical apparel and gear products.

- Part and Assembly Design: Use 3D CAD (SolidWorks) to design complex assemblies and convert 3D models into manufacturing drawings using GD&T best practices.

- Process Development: Analyze complex assembly sequences, write manufacturing and work instructions, conduct cycle time studies, and calculate manufacturing metrics (throughput, scrap rate, OEE).

- Automated Sewing Development: Design, build, and test fixtures; program automated sewing systems; refine automated sewing processes to improve quality and reliability; train production staff on new processes.

- Procurement and Equipment: Coordinate with internal and external resources to source BOM items, fabricated parts, and commercial items. Define process requirements and work with vendors to select or develop manufacturing equipment.

- Collaboration: Partner with a cross-functional team of technical designers, engineers, production staff, and product designers to deliver high-quality, high-throughput production solutions.

Required Experience & Qualifications

REQUIRED

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or a related field

- 3-5 years of manufacturing, process, or automation engineering experience in a production environment

- Strong 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred; Fusion, Creo, CATIA, or Siemens NX also considered) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD or DraftSight)

- Demonstrated hands-on problem solving on a live production floor

PREFERRED

- Manufacturing engineering: production line design, fixture design, DFM, DFA, DFX

- Automation and robotics: robot cells, SCARA and 6-axis robots, gantry systems, automated sewing equipment (Juki, pattern tackers)

- Apparel manufacturing: sewing line design, cutting, trimming, bonding, fabric welding

- Controls and programming: PLCs, HMIs, Python, Arduino, shop floor control (Exenta)

- Also of interest: machining and CAD/CAM, additive manufacturing, composites, simulation (FlexSim, Arena), pattern making (Gerber), military apparel and gear experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT: On-site in an active manufacturing facility; extended standing and walking, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs, required PPE.

The salary range for this position is between $75,000 - $100,000/yr.
