Job description

Gear Machinist III - Gleason Experience

Dodge City, Kansas | Full-Time | Pay dependent on experience and skill.

You Know Gleason Machines. Now Take Your Skills Further.

We are looking for an experienced machinist who understands that gear manufacturing is more than loading a part and pressing Cycle Start.

If you have hands-on experience with Gleason equipment, understand the fundamentals of bevel and hypoid gears, and want to continue developing your skills, this could be the opportunity you have been looking for.

Our facility manufactures bevel, hypoid, worm and planetary gears using a combination of proven mechanical equipment and modern CNC technology, including:

  • Gleason Phoenix 280C CNC bevel-gear cutting machine

  • Conventional mechanical Gleason machines

  • Gleason gear-testing and lapping equipment

  • Hwacheon VT-950+ vertical turning center

  • Additional gear-cutting, inspection and production equipment

You do not need to know every machine or process we use. We are looking for someone with the right Gleason foundation, strong mechanical instincts and the desire to become an advanced gear-manufacturing specialist.

What You'll Do
  • Set up and operate Gleason gear-manufacturing equipment

  • Support production of bevel and hypoid gear sets

  • Make machine, tooling and workholding adjustments

  • Inspect gears and verify conformance to specifications

  • Evaluate backlash and tooth-contact patterns

  • Identify and troubleshoot machining or gear-quality problems

  • Maintain accurate setup and production records

  • Work with experienced team members to improve quality and productivity

  • Expand your knowledge of worm, planetary and CNC gear manufacturing

  • Progress toward advanced Phoenix 280C setup, programming and troubleshooting

What We're Looking For
  • Hands-on experience operating Gleason gear equipment

  • Understanding of bevel and hypoid gear fundamentals

  • CNC or conventional machine setup experience

  • Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing instructions

  • Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment

  • Understanding of runout, concentricity and close-tolerance machining

  • Mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving ability

  • Willingness to continue your education and complete advanced training

  • Dependable attendance and commitment to safe, quality-focused work

Experience That Will Help You Stand Out
  • Gleason Phoenix 280C or related Phoenix experience

  • Mechanical Gleason setup experience

  • Gear lapping and rolling inspection

  • Tooth-contact pattern interpretation

  • Backlash and mounting-distance adjustments

  • Cutter building or truing

  • Gear hobbing, shaping or grinding

  • Worm or planetary gear manufacturing

  • CNC vertical turning experience

  • Fanuc or Siemens CNC controls

  • Gear metrology or first-piece inspection

What Makes This Opportunity Different

This is not a production-operator position with nowhere to advance. It is an opportunity to build on your existing Gleason knowledge and develop into a highly skilled gear-manufacturing specialist.

The right candidate will receive hands-on development involving modern and traditional Gleason equipment, advanced gear inspection, CNC processes and multiple gear families.

Starting pay: based on experience

Relocation assistance may be considered for the right candidate.

If you understand Gleason machines, take pride in producing gears correctly and want to continue learning, we want to hear from you.

Apply with a resume that lists the specific Gleason machines, gear processes and CNC controls you have operated.
