Full Time Game Tester information
What is a full time game tester?
A Full Time Game Tester is responsible for playing video games to identify bugs, glitches, and other issues before a game is released. They follow test plans, report issues to developers, and provide feedback on gameplay mechanics and overall user experience. This role requires attention to detail, patience, and strong communication skills. Game testers often work closely with developers and quality assurance teams to ensure the final product meets quality standards.
What does a full time game tester do?
A typical day for a Full Time Game Tester involves playing assigned sections of a game to identify and document bugs, glitches, or inconsistencies, while following detailed test plans or scripts. You'll spend considerable time writing clear and precise bug reports, retesting fixes, and collaborating with developers, artists, and other QA team members to resolve issues. In addition, you may participate in daily standup meetings and provide feedback on game usability or design. The work often requires repetitive testing, patience, and flexibility as game builds evolve throughout development.
What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a full time game tester?
To thrive as a Full Time Game Tester, you need strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a passion for gaming, often supported by experience with various game genres and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with bug tracking tools (like JIRA or Bugzilla), test case management systems, and sometimes knowledge of basic scripting or QA certifications can be important. Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities help testers clearly report issues and collaborate effectively with developers. These skills ensure that games are thoroughly tested, bugs are accurately identified and reported, and overall product quality is maintained before release.
