Description:
Department: Anatomic Pathology
Hours: Full time, 40 hours a week
Location: Trinity Health Ann Arbor
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs all job functions of Group Leader Laboratory - Technical on an as needed basis.
  • In addition to managerial and administrative duties, the Group Leader performs all duties of R01337 SEMI Histotechnologist.
  • Schedules and leads group huddles for the Histology group.
  • Check overdue lists for both surgical pathology and dermatopathology cases as well as ancillary testing including IHC and special staining.
  • Monitor priority cases.
  • Correct reports as necessary.
  • Maintains compliance with CLIA and CAP standards.
  • Monitors Histology performance metrics including but not limited to: daily Turn-Around Time, quality control reports, and tech productivity.
  • Attends and participates in department and lead meetings to facilitate work coordination with other areas of the lab.
  • Oversee the technical troubleshooting of embedding ang microtomy, coordinating with the director of histology and dermatopathology on questionable cases.
  • Oversee the workflow of surgical pathology specimens and alert the manager and Lead/Charge tech for the order entry staff and grossing staff if technical issues or troubleshooting needs performed.
  • Maintain CAP required proficiency and educational materials (receive, distribute, return slides/materials, enter results, etc.).
  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships.
  • Approaches conflict in a constructive manner.
  • Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education:
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or university in a basic science (Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science).
  • Or have appropriate combination of education and experience as outlined by CAP regulations to participate in high complexity function(s) within surgical pathology.

Certification:
  • ASCP certification for Histotechnician (HT) or Scientist in Histotechnology (HTL); OR eligible for certification. Must become certified within one year of hire.

Experience:
  • Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of progressively more responsible experience as a Histotechnologist.
