PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a leader in the aviation industry to find a talented FPGA Design/Verification Engineer who is ready to help develop the next generation of safety-critical avionics systems. Position Overview

Job Title: FPGA Design/Verification Engineer
Location: Owego, NY
Duration: August 24, 2026 – March 12, 2027
Schedule: 4/10 Workweek | Monday-Thursday | First Shift
Pay Rate: $60.00 - $80.00 per hour

In this role, you will support the development, verification, and certification of advanced FPGA-based avionics hardware used in complex aerospace systems. Working alongside systems architects, hardware engineers, and certification teams, you'll help ensure that critical designs meet rigorous industry and regulatory standards while contributing to innovative technologies that drive future business growth.

What You'll Do

As an FPGA Design/Verification Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Support FPGA and ASIC development activities for advanced aerospace R&D programs.
  • Perform FPGA verification activities required for DO-254 compliance, including requirements analysis, test development, execution, coverage analysis, and results documentation.
  • Develop and execute verification plans for safety-critical avionics hardware.
  • Conduct simulation, integration, verification, and testing of complex high-speed digital systems.
  • Support designs involving:
    • Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
    • High-speed digital architectures
    • High-speed communications
    • System-on-Chip (SoC) technologies
  • Utilize FPGA development tools to evaluate and verify system performance.
  • Collaborate closely with systems, RF, analog, digital hardware, and FPGA engineering teams.
  • Assist in developing automated processes and scripting solutions that improve FPGA development efficiency.
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and integration activities.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical assessments, and certification support efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Contribute to the successful certification of avionics hardware meeting DO-254 Level A requirements.
Required Qualifications

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience supporting FPGA design and verification in complex engineering environments.
  • Experience with FPGA development tools such as:
    • Xilinx Vivado
    • Intel Quartus
    • Synopsys Synplify
  • Strong proficiency in SystemVerilog.
  • Experience using HDL simulators, waveform viewers, and coverage analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of verification methodologies including requirements-based verification and coverage-driven testing.
  • Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test environments.
  • Experience using hardware debug and test equipment such as:
    • JTAG interfaces
    • Logic analyzers
  • Understanding of configuration management and version control systems.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience supporting the development of highly reliable, high-performance digital systems.
Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following experience are especially encouraged to apply:

  • Prior experience supporting DO-254 certification efforts.
  • Previous participation in FAA or EASA certification audits.
  • Experience verifying safety-critical aerospace or avionics hardware.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
    • High-speed networking architectures
    • High-speed communications systems
    • FPGA-based embedded processors
    • Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) control platforms
  • Proficiency with Universal Verification Methodology (UVM).
  • Proficiency in C programming.
  • Experience with ASIC and FPGA integration on advanced aerospace platforms.
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical direction to engineering teams.

Pay Details: $60.00 to $80.00 per hour
