Job Description

The CMM Programmer develops, modifies, and maintains Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection programs for new and existing products using PC-DMIS software. This role conducts and documents first article inspections (FAI) and capability analysis to support our PPAP programs. Additionally, the CMM Programmer supports quality improvement efforts, internal auditing, and continuous improvement initiatives, participating in project kick-off teams to enhance product introduction quality.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Development: Create, optimize, and troubleshoot complex CMM programs using 3D CAD models, part drawings, and geometric specifications.
  • Quality Documentation: Conduct detailed First Article Inspections (FAI) and capability studies; compile and present clear, concise data packages to support customer PPAP requirements.
  • Precision Measurement: Take critical dimensional measurements utilizing standard precision layout tools, including gauges, fixtures, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Data Interpretation: Interpret complex inspection results and statistical data (SPC), communicating variations or deviations clearly to the engineering and production teams.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Participate actively in project kick-off meetings to provide quality insight during new product introductions. Manage technical communication regarding layout data for internal and external vendor/customer relations.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper operation, calibration tracking, and safety compliance of all CMM equipment and precision measurement tools.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Technical Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on CMM programming experience, with demonstrated mastery of PC-DMIS software (programming from CAD models is highly preferred).
  • Blueprints & GD&T: Proficient in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, with a fundamental understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
  • Quality Systems: Strong familiarity with manufacturing quality systems, SPC (Statistical Process Control), control plans, and PPAP workflows.
  • Communication: Strong command of written and verbal English; ability to interact confidently across all levels of the plant, from production floor associates to corporate leadership.
  • Software: High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) for report generation and data tracking.
