Job description

Position Description - Die Cast Mold Maker

Zinga Industries in Reedsburg, WI is seeking a full-time, on-site Die Cast Mold Maker.

The Die Cast Mold Maker will design, build, repair, and maintain complex precision metal molds (dies) used in high-pressure casting machines to produce metal parts.

The Die Cast Mold Maker will interpret technical blueprints, operate toolroom machinery (lathes, mills, CNC), and perform preventative maintenance to ensure high-quality, high-volume production.


Key Responsibilities - Die Cast Mold Maker

  • Mold Repair: Repair or replace worn/damaged surfaces and components like pins, runners, and vents to extend tool life.
  • Trim Die Fabrication & Assembly: Build, adjust, and repair trim dies, fixtures using common tool steels.
  • Toolroom Operations: Set up and operate machinery such as grinders, lathes, milling machines, and CNCs to machine tool components to precise tolerances.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform preventive maintenance, disassemble and clean complex molds, and troubleshoot casting defects related to mold issues.
  • Technical Drawing Analysis: Read and interpret blueprints, CAD models, and specifications to verify dimensions and ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate Subcontractors: Direct and Lead outside service providers for new tooling and repairs.

Requirements - Die Cast Mold Maker

  • Experience: 3+ years in tool and die making, specifically with die-cast or plastic injection tooling.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of CNC machine tools, CAM, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED; apprenticeship completion or technical degree is highly preferred.
  • Physical/Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude, and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Strong knowledge of materials (tool steel) and heat treatment.
  • Tool Steel TIG Welding Capabilities

Compensation and Benefits - Die Cast Mold Maker

  • $32.00 - $35.00 per hour (DOE)
