Position Summary

The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides comprehensive perioperative nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role is responsible for ensuring patient safety, maintaining sterile technique, assisting surgeons during procedures, coordinating patient care, and delivering exceptional clinical outcomes throughout the surgical experience.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and committed to delivering exceptional patient care.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Circulate surgical procedures in a busy ambulatory surgery center
  • Perform comprehensive preoperative patient assessments
  • Prepare operating rooms and surgical equipment
  • Maintain sterile field and strict aseptic technique
  • Ensure patient safety throughout surgical procedures
  • Assist surgeons and anesthesia providers during procedures
  • Perform accurate surgical counts of instruments, sponges, and sharps
  • Administer medications and monitor patient responses
  • Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record
  • Collaborate with physicians, surgical technologists, anesthesia providers, and PACU staff
  • Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures and recovery
  • Participate in patient recovery and postoperative care as needed
  • Maintain compliance with Joint Commission, OSHA, and infection control standards

Required Qualifications

  • Active Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Current BLS Certification (AHA, American Red Cross, or ASHI)
  • ACLS Certification (required for cardiac-related departments)
  • Minimum 1 year of Registered Nurse experience
  • Strong communication and critical thinking skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of Operating Room or Perioperative Nursing experience
  • Previous Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) experience
  • CNOR Certification
  • Circulating Nurse experience
  • Cath Lab experience
  • Electrophysiology experience
  • Vascular procedure experience
  • Experience with conscious sedation
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation
  • Strong understanding of sterile processing and infection prevention
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
