What is a full time equine reproduction job?

Full time equine reproduction jobs involve working with horses to manage and facilitate their breeding and reproductive health. The role typically includes monitoring breeding cycles, assisting with reproductive procedures, maintaining records, and ensuring the health and welfare of both mares and foals throughout the breeding season. Full-time positions are often found at breeding farms, veterinary clinics, and research institutions. The job may require flexible hours, especially during foaling season, and strong knowledge of equine reproductive biology.

A full time equine reproduction specialist typically manages tasks such as monitoring mares for signs of estrus, performing artificial insemination, collecting and evaluating stallion semen, assisting with foaling, and conducting ultrasounds to confirm pregnancies. They also maintain detailed health and breeding records, administer medications, and collaborate closely with veterinarians, farm managers, and horse owners. The role can involve irregular hours, especially during breeding season, and requires both hands-on animal care and detailed administrative work to ensure successful outcomes.

Job description

Mixed-Animal Opportunity — Northwest Iowa

Where can your day begin with a bovine spay, end beside a cattle chute, and maybe include a camel along the way? At Countryside Veterinary Clinic, variety is part of everyday practice. Join a hardworking, laughter-loving team that supports one another across our three northwest Iowa locations.

About Us

Countryside Veterinary Clinic is a rural mixed-animal practice serving northwest Iowa through locations in Marcus, Remsen, and Moville. Our caseload reflects the communities we support, with extensive feedlot and cow/calf work, a strong small animal presence, and a variety of equine, swine, and small ruminant cases — plus the occasional camel, so every week brings something different.

You'll be working alongside:

  • Dr. Bruce Tabke (Iowa State University, 1984), large animal practitioner, and the team's go-to for equine reproduction work
  • Dr. Bailey Gray (Iowa State University, 2017), mixed animal practitioner
  • Dr. Amanda Hendricks (Kansas State University, 2020), mixed animal practitioner
  • Dr. Morgan Powell (Colorado State University, 2026), mixed animal practitioner

Our support team is the backbone of the practice, with several members contributing to more than 20 years of experience. Each of our three locations has at least one receptionist, and our team also includes veterinary technicians and a dedicated large animal technician.

We work hard, communicate openly, and make time to enjoy what we do. Our success depends on teamwork, shared goals, and a genuine commitment to our patients and clients.

"The team dynamic is what originally drew me to Countryside. I moved here knowing no one except my fiancé, and even as a new graduate, I quickly became friends with the team — not just coworkers. We have a yearly staff picnic, a Christmas party, potlucks during lunch, and get together a few times a year for a bonfire or supper."

— Dr. Bailey Gray, DVM

About This Role
  • Comfortable working across species and settings — from the cattle chute to the exam room
  • Small-animal-only veterinarians are also encouraged to apply
  • Strong communication skills with clients and team members
  • Organized and able to manage a varied caseload across multiple locations
  • Iowa veterinary license required
  • Type II Accreditation for TB testing, Brucellosis vaccination, and health certificates, or willingness to obtain
About You
  • Adaptable and comfortable with days that rarely look the same
  • Friendly with clients and comfortable becoming a trusted presence in a small community
  • Enjoys contributing to a close-knit, collaborative team
  • Brings a steady, good-humored approach to the workday
  • Motivated to build lasting relationships with both clients and colleagues
Our Location

Countryside serves Marcus, Remsen, and Moville — classic rural communities in northwest Iowa. For families, the MMCRU school district recently added a new school and daycare. Marcus offers everyday conveniences including a locally owned grocery store, family-owned lumberyard, AgState, coffee shop, golf course, clothing company, trucking employment opportunities, Pizza Ranch, and local bar/restaurants. Cherokee, about 15–20 minutes away, adds Hy-Vee and Fareway, while Sioux City is roughly an hour away for big-box shopping, including Target and Lowe's, plus additional city amenities.

Our Offer
  • Full-Time Salary Range ($90,000 – $120,000)
  • Stocked practice vehicle
  • Professional Dues: 3 per year
  • Professional liability provided
  • CE Allowance: $3000 biennial
  • PTO: 30 days/year (26 days regular PTO + 4 CE days)
  • Full Benefits Package (Health, Dental, Vision, STD, LTD, Life, Accident, + more!)
  • 401K with employer match (after 90 days)
  • Up to eight weeks PAID parental leave* (after 6 months)
  • Accelerated ownership opportunity with our Associate Equity Program!

*6 weeks paid medical recovery time for birth mothers + 2 weeks paid bonding time for all parents
