Responsible for maintaining safety and security for an assigned area. Maintains safety and security of patients, visitors, and employees; conducts routine patrols of assigned areas to keep property and persons free from risk; meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned area. Responds to emergencies, fire alarms, hazardous material incidents. Deals with conflict, confrontation, and stressful situations on a routine basis. Establishes a uniformed police presence by patrolling Geisinger property to deter criminal activity, investigate criminal events, document activities, and take appropriate police action when necessary and within the scope of Geisinger policy. Must be physically able to provide the essential services of the position.
Job Duties:
  • Conducts routine patrols on foot or vehicle of assigned areas; enforces hospital rules of conduct; completes detailed reports as required.
  • Respond to acts of violence at Geisinger owned or controlled properties and potentially engage in the use of force as governed by Pennsylvania Law and Geisinger policy.
  • Carry, properly handle, maintain proficiency, and be able to deploy lethal and less lethal weapons as prescribed by federal/state law and Geisinger policy.
  • Tasked with the ability to effect arrests for certain criminal offenses, and issue PA state citations for certain criminal and traffic offenses using specific law enforcement applications such as the PA Justice Network.
  • Perform as a Geisinger Security Officer when necessary.
  • Handle and manage evidence pertaining to criminal incidents occurring in/on Geisinger owned properties.
  • Directs traffic on hospital property; enforces traffic and parking regulations; assists patients, visitors, and employees with vehicle problems per policy and training.
  • Operates security technology equipment including personal computers, CCTV systems, fire alarm system, access control systems, security alarm systems, and radios.
  • Responds to requests for assistance involving patients in the assigned locations; assists in locating patients; assists Life Flight with unloading patients and equipment, as necessary.
  • Assists and directs patients and visitors to areas on the Geisinger campus; furnishes and may aid disable persons or others in need of physical assistance upon arrival and departure from the Geisinger facility.

Work is typically performed in an office environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Position Details:
  • Experience: 2 years' experience in law enforcement
  • Act 120 Training or equivalent (PA State Police Academy, out of state law enforcement academy, Federal Law enforcement academy).
  • Act 235 certification ( prerequisite).
  • Chosen applicant's role is contingent upon successful completion of any related background checks and court petitions

Education:
Graduate from Specialty Training Program- (Required)
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year-Related work experience (Preferred)
Certification(s) and License(s):
Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months - Default Issuing Body, Pennsylvania Act 235 Certification within 6 months - Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Act 501 Private Police Designation within 6 months - Pennsylvania State Police, Valid Driver's License - Default Issuing Body
