Engineers in these positions may specialize in fields like civil, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering, and are responsible for designing, building, testing, and maintaining systems or products. Full-time roles often provide more stability and opportunities for career advancement compared to part-time or contract positions.

Job description

Description:

Engineering Manager

Location: In Office, Downtown Boise, ID

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: Competitive, based on experience

Who we are

OurPetPolicy provides a compliance-focused platform that helps property managers track animals on residential properties, maintain accurate records, and comply with applicable Fair Housing laws. Our platform supports property managers, applicants, and internal teams through scalable software systems, workflow automation, and enterprise-level integrations.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and grow our engineering team as OurPetPolicy continues to scale.

This role is equal parts technical leadership and people leadership. You'll mentor developers, improve engineering processes, help shape our technical roadmap, and ensure the team delivers high-quality software. You'll work closely with product and leadership while remaining technically involved enough to guide architecture, review code, and help solve complex technical challenges.

Our engineering team spans multiple time zones, so we're looking for someone with experience leading distributed teams and building a collaborative engineering culture.

You'll also play an important role in helping us evaluate our engineering infrastructure and tooling as we grow. Rather than owning every technical discipline yourself, you'll help determine where automation, modern platforms, or specialized resources can best support the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support a distributed team of software engineers.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing engineering culture.
  • Conduct code reviews and establish engineering standards and best practices.
  • Partner with product and operations teams to prioritize and deliver new features.
  • Help define technical architecture and guide key engineering decisions.
  • Improve development workflows, planning, documentation, and release processes.
  • Support hiring, interviewing, onboarding, and coaching engineers.
  • Remove roadblocks and help the team execute efficiently.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate priorities, risks, and timelines to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and engineering tools that improve team productivity.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and DevOps resources to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable systems.
  • Contribute to software development when appropriate, particularly on architectural or complex technical work.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Previous experience leading or managing software engineering teams.
  • Strong experience building backend applications using Java, with the ability to work across a polyglot technology stack.
  • Experience working with modern frontend frameworks such as React.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, relational databases, and software architecture.
  • Experience working with AWS or other cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to balance technical excellence with delivering business value.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading distributed or international engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL.
  • Experience working in SaaS environments.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, cloud automation, or modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing new engineering tools and technologies.
  • Experience supporting SOC 2 or security-focused development practices.

Work Environment

  • In-office position based in downtown Boise.
  • Collaborative, fast-paced office environment.
  • Leadership role working closely with engineering, product, and operations teams.
  • Opportunity to shape the future direction of engineering at a growing SaaS company.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience.
  • Accrued PTO (up to 21 days of vacation and sick time year 1).
  • Paid holidays.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • HSA/FSA options and life insurance.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • MacBook workstation provided.

Equal Opportunity Statement

Landlord Tech, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.

In accordance with federal law, all new hires must provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States and complete required employment verification upon hire.
